MHATRICHHAT MHATNSHAT ROUGE
DESCRIPTION
Elegant, fresh and balanced, with supple tannins, our Maria Mansa red wine offers delicious red fruit notes, typical of wines from this region, in good harmony with more woody aromas. This balance makes this high quality Douro wine a round wine, easily accessible, ready to be consumed immediately.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VINTAGE
The year 2019 was characterized by a mild winter and a generally dry climate, with virtually no rain from May through the end of August. While producers across Europe have faced heat waves, and although we have enjoyed prolonged sunny weather, temperatures this summer in the Douro were fortunately lower than normal, allowing the vines to better withstand the absence of rain. In addition, the low humidity helped reduce disease pressure in the vineyard and encouraged the production of beautiful healthy grapes.
The harvest began on September 9 for the red grape varieties. They took place in ideal conditions, with moderate temperatures and an overall dry climate. Some welcome rains fell on September 21 and 22 and then between October 14 and 17.
Yields were slightly above our ten-year average and the musts showed freshness and beautiful natural acidity. After six weeks of picking, the harvest ended on October 18. The harvest period was long, but this is common in the Douro, where the diversity of grape varieties, exposure and altitude mean that each plot is harvested at different times. Although this diversity is a challenge for the technical team, it also brings an extraordinary richness that gives complexity and character to the wines of Quinta do Noval.
TASTING NOTE
Maria Mansa 2019 reveals an intense ruby color. It reveals young and lively aromas of red fruits and wild fruits, perfectly integrated with woody notes, giving it more complexity. On the palate, this wine has a structure and body that are both nicely balanced, with round and melted tannins. Its remarkable freshness gives it a long and seductive finish.
