Quinta do Noval produces Maria Mansa from carefully selected grapes from the highest vineyards of the Douro Appellation d'Origine region, favorable for the production of white wines.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VINTAGE
The year 2020 was characterized by two different periods. Especially in winter and until the end of May, significant rainfall allowed the soil to replenish its water reserves. This moisture also led to some bouts of late blight, which we were able to control. Then, starting in June, a period of high heat and drought caused low quantities of wines that nevertheless proved to be of high quality and character.
We harvested the white grape varieties, starting with the Gouveio, from August 17 to 27. The grapes were perfectly healthy. The wines are excellent with a beautiful aromatic expression.
The privileged location of Quinta do Noval, in the heart of the Douro Valley, combined with our spectacularly steep terraces, the diversity of our grape varieties and our experienced team make the uniqueness of our terroir.
In the end, the resilience and efforts of our team were rewarded this 2020 season with wonderful wines with high potential, among the best ever made at the Quinta.
TASTING NOTE
"Maria Mansa Blanc 2020 reveals a fruitiness and freshness resulting from the unique character of the Douro and its traditional local grape varieties. The dress is clear and bright. The intense nose reveals pronounced aromas of white-fleshed fruit, tropical fruit and citrus. VINE GRAPES
Maria Mansa is a blend of traditional Douro white grape varieties: 50% Viosinho, 40% Gouveio, 10% Rabigato.
WINEMAKING
90% fermented in stainless steel tanks,
10% in old French oak barrels for 20 days.
There was no malolactic fermentation.
CULTURATION
90% aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve its aromatic purity,
10% in old French oak barrels, with batonnage once a week for 3 months.
