Swartland Bush Vine Pinotage 2017

Swartland - Fermentation took place in an open fermentation tank at 25°C with manual punch downs daily. The wine was pressed gently after 10 days of skin contact. Malolactic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks and the wine was then aged in 25% new and 75% older French oak barrels. Total maturation time in barrel was 12 months. Plums and dark forest fruit flavours integrate with the gentle spiciness and velvety tannins.

Swartland - APPEARANCE Intense, ruby red wine with light rim. Intense colour, clear and bright. Barrel matured NOSE A forthcoming, complex nose with flavours such as spices, white pepper, violets and an earthy smokiness complimented by red berry fruit. Well balanced with wood flavours. PALATE This is a beautifully full and complex wine. Firm tannins with good wood integration give a full, complex, but well-balanced wine. Drink now or let this one rest in the cellar for another couple of years. FOOD SUGGESTION This wine will complement a rich risotto dish or crispy pork belly.

Swartland - APPEARANCE A pale straw colour, medium density. Clear and sparkly bright. NOSE Forthcoming nose with aromas of dried fruit, especially peach and apricots, and hints of citrus. PALATE The nose follows through on the palate with aromas of dried fruit, almonds and citrus. Good acid with well balanced wood gives a creamy texture to the wine. Well-balanced, intense wine, but light enough to enjoy more than one glass. Creamy, long aftertaste. FOOD SUGGESTION This wine will be perfect with a creamy cheese and bruschetta salad or pan-fried scallops with asparagus on a bed of young leaves.
