2017 Mount Riley 'Captain's Mistress' Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc

A fantastic growing season with warm mid-summer temperatures enabled perfect flavor development for this opulent wine. Late season heavy dews created enough moisture for the development of noble rot while the warm clear days allowed the fruit to dehydrate effortlessly.

The fruit was hand harvested in mid-May, de-stemmed, crushed and fermented at cool temperatures for several weeks. The ferments were monitored carefully to achieve a perfect balance between the sugar and acid to make this wine deliciously moreish.

2017 Mount Riley Pinot Noir

The grapes from which this wine was made were grown on one of Mount Riley’s premium vineyards
in the Southern Valleys sub region – our Seventeen Valley vineyard, comprised of predominantly clay
based soil. From clones 5, 777 and 115 the wines blended create what we consider to be the finest
attributes Pinot Noir has to offer.

Grapes were handpicked cold soaked and fermented using indigenous yeast from Mount Riley’s
winery and vineyard with a portion fermented as whole clusters. The wine was then aged for ten
months in a mixture of new and seasoned French barrels.

2017 Mount Riley Pinot Noir

Back to all winesModerate yields, warm summer temperatures and settled harvest weather conditions made for a happy winemaking team and some outstanding flavor in our Sauvignon Blanc fruit. With vigilant and timely picking decisions we were able to ensure our principles of high quality and capture those enticing Marlborough flavours that create Mount Riley’s classic and highly sought-after Estate Sauvignon Blanc.

Our 2019 Sauvignon Blanc is a blend from multiple vineyard sites throughout Marlborough, with a portion from the Awatere Valley and the balance from the Wairau Valley. Grapes were crushed and destemmed prior to pressing and fermentation was induced by the introduction of carefully selected yeast strains. We fermented in stainless steel at cool temperatures to preserve the lifted aromatics in this wine.

2019 Mount Riley Pinot Gris

The grapes for this wine were grown in the Wairau and Awatere Valley’s of Marlborough. The Awatere fruit provides freshness and acidity and the Wairau fruit a riper flavour spectrum. Warm summer temperatures made for the perfect conditions to create mouthwatering flavours in this classic Mount Riley wine.

We harvested the fruit during the night in cool temperatures so that the natural flavours and aromatics were preserved. The grapes were gently pressed and the juice settled prior to fermentation. A small percentage was fermented in barrel to accentuate texture and complexity in the wine while the remainder was fermented in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures to retain the bright, varietal aromatics.

2019 Mount Riley Gewürztraminer

The grapes for this wine were grown in our Omaka Valley Vineyard in Marlborough. A super warm summer led to plenty of flavour development and resulted in fruit with excellent aromatics, intense flavour and great retention of natural acidity.

We harvested the fruit at night in cool temperatures to preserve the wonderful flavours and aromatics. The grapes were gently pressed and the juice settled prior to fermentation in stainless steel tanks at cool temperatures to retain the bright, varietal aromatics. Four months on lees post fermentation built texture and complexity.

2018 Mount Riley Limited Release Waitaki Valley Pinot Noir

Our Limited Release Waitaki Valley Pinot Noir was sourced from the Doctors Creek area in the Waitaki Valley, North Otago. An extremely warm 2017-18 growing season allowed fruit to be picked at optimal maturity in what is generally considered to be an extremely tough place to grow grapes.

The fruit was hand-picked late in the season. Once in the winery, there was minimal handling allowing the fruit to express its purity. The wine further developed while maturing in French oak barriques for 10 months prior to bottling.

2019 Mount Riley 'The Bonnie' Pinot Rosé

Our Pinot Rosé was made from a blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris grapes. The Pinot Noir grapes were crushed and destemmed and held in our press for 6 hours before being gently juiced to tank. Hand selected parcels of Pinot Gris grapes were chosen to blend into the tanks before fermentation was prompted by the introduction of carefully selected yeast strains. This delightful blend was fermented at cool temperatures to encourage and preserve its bright, lifted aromatics.

2018 Mount Riley Pinot Noir

2018 was a year in which the Viticulture team earned their keep! We accumulated a lot of moisture in traditionally our driest months of the year – January, February and March. As a result the vines continued to produce lots of leaves and the vineyard team spent a great deal of time ensuring the fruit had the correct levels of sun exposure – lots of trimming and leaf plucking! Our 2018 Pinot Noir is a blend sourced from four of our Marlborough vineyards situated in the Southern Valley’s sub-region. Diversity of clone allowed us to make a complex and complete wine with vibrant, pure fruit character and depth of flavour. Grapes were cold soaked, fermented in small parcels and aged for nine months in French oak barriques.

2017 Mount Riley Chardonnay

The fruit from which this wine was made came from different vineyard parcels from Mount Riley’s
Seventeen Valley, Dillon and Anderson Vineyards. Clones 95 and 2/23 are planted in these vineyards
with the 95 clone offering a riper stone fruit influence and the 2/23 providing citrus driven
characters. The balance of ripeness and fine acid gives the wine focus and length.

The grapes were handpicked and whole bunch pressed to gently extract juice. The juice was then
fermented on full solids in French oak barriques, 30% of which were new, using indigenous yeast
naturally found in Mount Riley’s winery and vineyard. Lees stirring was carried out post
fermentation to build weight, texture and complexity.
