Wine: Quinta do Tedo Grande Reserva Savedra 2011
Style: Douro DOC Red Wine
Climate: Mediterranean; Very low yearly rainfall (500mm/18in); dry, hot summer.
Grapes: Old vines (60+ years old) from our Savedra parcel; to include Touriga Nacional (15%) and Touriga Franca (10%).
Winemaking: Hand-picked; pre-fermentation maceration for 3 days, alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks with controlled temperature, maceration after fermentation 7 days; post-fermentation for 5 days. Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks (40%) and in French oak barrels (60%).
Ageing: 22 months in 225 liter/60 gallon new French oak barrels.
Production: 4,600 bottles
Color: Deep ruby with purple highlights.
Aroma: Orange peel, dry tobacco, mineral, wood and spice (black pepper).
Mouth: Soft and full-bodied; flavors of blackberry and wood; structured by robust tannins with a long and persistent finish.
Suggestions: A full bodied and concentrated wine, certainly appreciated amongst connoisseurs of Côtes du Rhônes wines. Enjoy now or age until 2017-2020. Open one hour before serving at 17°C/63°F.
Enjoy with: Slow-cooked red meat-based pasta sauces, ragouts, stews, grilled or roasted meat, game with reduced sauces, dry, aged cheeses.
