Domaine Gioulis Sauvignon Gris

Varietal: Sauvignon Gris 100%

Sauvignon Gris is the clone of Sauvignon Blanc which has been revived the last ten years. It is cultivated and vinified exclusively for the first time in the Greek territory, from our domaine.

Vineyard: “Bostrikiza”, at the slopes of the valley of Klimenti at 800 m. altitude with a north-east orientation. The harvest is in mid-September.

Vinification: Traditional white wine vinification. The grapes are pressed at low temperature for a few hours and clarified by static sedimentation. The fermentation takes place at an increasing temperature of 17-22 οC in temperature controlled stainless steel vats.

Tasting notes: The color is light yellow, with greenish tinges. The nose is elegant with aromas of white flowers, herbal notes and hints of exotic fruits. The palate is well structured, with a medium plus acidity and a medium body. It has fragrant of lime, fresh pineapple and bergamot oil. With the age it reveals mature citrus fruits and white nuts flavors.

Domaine Gioulis Harvest Report 2019

Our white grape varieties Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and the pink skinned Sauvignon Gris were harvested September 12-20. For the red grape varieties Agiorgitiko, and Cabernet Sauvignon the harvest took place from October 1-5. Lastly for the grey skinned Moschofilero the harvest took place from October 5-15. Generally, the harvest was 8 to 10 days later than in an average year.

Difficult weather conditions with rain and snow occurred during winter, a mild spring followed From early July up to mid-October there was adequate sun and medium temperatures which gave a late growing season and late ripening conditions. It was really surprising that we had ideal weather conditions especially during harvest. It has been for more than a decade to have such a beautiful weather.

This will probably be one of the best vintages of the last 15 years. The ideal weather conditions offered quality grapes and good ripening conditions, which has resulted in an excellent phenolic ripeness for the red wines. The 2019 white wines will display fine pure primary aromas, and great balance between acidity and alcohol.

We look forward to offer you to taste this great vintage!

About us

Company details

In 1993, George Gioulis agronomist - oenologist, founded the winery Domaine Gioulis by planting his first vineyard at the mountainous village of Klimenti, in the north of Peloponnese in Greece. This vineyard has been one of the first certified organic vineyards in Greece.
Nowadays, his children, Dimitris and Ermioni, with studies in oenology and in the trade of wines respectively, continue the route of the estate along with their father.
Domaine Gioulis is consisted of 60 acres/8ha of planted vines, located close to the winery; on slide slopes, from 800 to 1000 meters of altitude.
The aim of this family winery is to keep the right relations between all that exists: the land, the climate, the vine and the cause of preserving the cultural heritage of winemaking in Greece.
