2015 Riserva Famiglia Fruttaio

The “Riserva Famiglia” title is only given to wines produced in the best vintage years which have passed a rigorous tasting panel. Made in the traditional appassimento style, vine dried for 4 weeks past traditional harvest dates and then rack dried in a single layer for 26 days. Dried in an ambient environment with forced air circulation to allow the fruit to slowly dry. Small batch fermented and aged in new French oak for 2 years.

One of Canada’s most unique red wines, it is among the first in the country to feature Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara. The 2015 Fruttaio is a very complex wine that displays tertiary development and a full body, all without the loss of primary fruit characters. It pours a beautiful garnet colour and has aromas of fig, ripe red plum, dried violets, earth, tobacco leaf, kirsch and preserved red fruit explode out of the pronounced, old-world-style nose. As the wine opens up, there is a sense of the long life that lay ahead as aromas develop into sweet oak characters like vanilla, nutmeg, smoke, caramel, clove and cigar box. On the palate there are a lot of similarities to the nose with additional dark chocolate, black pepper, sour cherry and toast. There is also an inherent sweet quality to this wine which speaks to the extreme ripeness of the grapes and keeps the texture of the wine velvety and smooth. The tannins are youthful and although the wine is smooth already, additional bottle ageing will only enhance its enjoyment. These traits also make the wine ideal to pair with food options rich in protein, acid and salt, in order to balance tannin and increase perceived fruitiness of the wine. Consider beef braciole, smoked sausage stew or mature cheeses and decant the wine at least one hour before service.

2016 Syrah

An honest and authentic representation of moderate climate Syrah, produced with great fruit, from a great vintage. Aged 24 months in French Oak, primary aromatics showcase notes of black cherry, peppercorn blackberry compote, fig, clove and juniper. Once given the opportunity to come in contact with ample air, subtleties of Bolivar cigar, dark chocolate, vanilla and cedar become more pronounced, suggesting immense aromatic complexity. The palate mirrors the nose, but highlights dominant flavours of black cherry, liquorice, wild blueberry, smoked meat and prune. The hallmark of this vintage of Syrah is the tannic profile – bold, but integrated alongside acid. An extended finish allows for consistency of flavours, and helps to accentuate body.

2015 Carretto Vidal Icewine 375ml

As with many cool climate regions, vintage variation is an inevitable part of the business. In stark contrast to the banner 2012 vintage, the 2013 vintage was cooler, shorter and with a bit more rainfall. Cooler vintages are perfect for varietals such as Vidal. A stellar Icewine encompasses fantastic aromas of floral notes, honey, candied orange peel, peach and apricot. You’ll find intense flavours of pineapple, lychee, and honey on your palate, as well as a voluptuous texture, balancing acidity and long finish.

2015 Exclamation Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2015 vintage was warm, dry and featured lots of sunshine during the day, but also cool refreshing nights. No sustained heatwaves or heavy rains were present, leading to a slightly warmer-than-average summer. Established French varietals in the Niagara Peninsula had no issue with the lack of precipitation and fared quite well. 2015 represented a typical summer in Niagara, known for developing good, if not great fruit and acid characteristics in still and sparkling wines.

An exceptional wine produced with minimal intervention from exceptional fruit. This vintage of Exclamation Cabernet Sauvignon showcases aromatics rooted in black cherry, blackberry jam, cooked strawberry, ginger snap, liquorice, juniper and cedar, with subtle dark chocolate (70%) and vanilla. The palate mirrors the nose, but with focus on ripened blackberry and blueberry, with undertones of liquorice and resinous oak. Mid-palate acidity integrates well with tannin profile, and primary fruit is pronounced after two years of barrel maturity. With minimal time, this wine will showcase the hallmarks of an outstanding Niagara red.

2016 Market Collection Dolce Bianco

A classic aromatic white blend, the dominant characters in this wine reflect the wines used in the blend. Notes of lychees in syrup, white flowers, lime zest and peaches fill the nose. The palate is medium sweet with notes of golden delicious apple, candied citrus and stone fruit jam. The moderate sweet palate would make this a great accompaniment to a simple fruit salad or alongside a granita or sorbet intermezzo during a meal. This wine would make for a great white sangria base during the summer time.

2018 Market Collection Lucia’s Rose

This wine was maade in the traditional method of making rosé that requires minimal skin contact to extract the colour. Notes of sour cherry, strawberry and herbal notes are apparent. The palate is fruit forwarded with plenty of candied fruit characteristics like Swedish berry candies. A touch of residual sugar helps balance the palate and lend to the fruit-forward nature of the wine. Best enjoyed with BBQ ribs.
