A celebration of all things femininity, equality and social justice – Pink Matter is a salute to strong female influences everywhere and a move towards a more inclusive, equal and cohesive society.

For Alpha Box & Dice’s Rosé, we had to do things a little differently (obvs). We are of the opinion that the best rosés are, in Winemaker Sam’s words, “dry and textural, light in colour, playful and fresh”. So that’s what we made… but we used a Ripasso method to make it.

We picked McLaren Vale Chardonnay and Riesling, which was oxidatively handled, pressed and fermented with no sulphur to encourage dryness. A portion of the white wine was split, spending one week on unpressed Grenache skins, before going into tank for four months on lees.

The result? Chardonnay, Riesling, with a stain of Grenache.  A marriage between red and white – a unique compromise. A trailblazer towards a new, pink future.

TASTES LIKE… Fresh acidity, creaminess across the palate, very textural.

You just don’t do a “half mullet” – you have to be all in.

The mullet, like skin contact white wines, has been around for millennia. Things never go out of fashion, they just get re-discovered… it’s a cycle, see? The Buddhists talk of Samsãra, the endless cycle of birth, life and death, but we here at AB&D know that to reach true enlightenment you need to grow that shaved head out, keep it short on top, grow out the back and rejoice in the pithy textures and heady perfumes of skin-contact white wine.

The inspiration for Golden Mullet Fury comes from time spent working in Moldova, a country, who along with Georgia and Armenia, has thousands of years of practice in the arts of both skin contact and the mullet. Slinky and textured in the mouth with a smooth flow across the palate and sweet tannin fanning out on the finish. It’s red wine-making applied the white wine – the blend? Semillon and Viognier… percentages don’t matter, but the end result does.

Much like the mullet.

SMELLS LIKE… Fresh hay, orange marmalade, marzipan.

TASTES LIKE… Rich, full bodied texture, almond and vanilla savoury notes with a gentle acidity.

DRINK WITH… Pork belly, salmon fillets (skin on), poultry.

CELLAR FOR… Up to 10 years.

Drink Zaptung on its own as a pick-me-up and rejoice in its unique hydration qualities.

Astound your friends and confound your enemies as it makes you appear infinitely more sophisticated than they remember. Use it in cocktails — yeah, that’s right – cocktails. Wear a sexy mask and pretend you are in Venice while you nonchalantly whip up some Bellinis and Aperol Spritzes for your excited guests. Put it in an atomiser and spray it on your face while you are dancing at the disco, simultaneously refreshing mind, body and spirit with every pump…

It is truly the most versatile of beverages.

LOOKS LIKE… Gold with a touch of bronze.

SMELLS LIKE… Nashi pears and apple.

TASTES LIKE… Soft spice, almond paste, white flowers.

Alpha Box & Dice

About us

Company details

Forming Alpha Box & Dice as a laboratory for viticultural exploration in 2008, the team set upon constructing a different wine style to represent every letter of the alphabet. Each member of the ‘Alphabet of Wine’ is has its own unique personality that fulfils a different purpose – no two wines are created alike. AB&D wines are all linked by their environment and surroundings, being created holistically through minimal intervention, vegan friendly methods. However, they are completely distinct in their flavour, appearance and orientation. In this way, AB&D wines are just like a (mostly) happy family.

Under the guidance of Managing Director Dylan Fairweather, Sam Berketa directs the vinous laboratory as Head Winemaker – ticking off letters with new blends, while evolving the existing wines in AB&D’s portfolio. Sam, who has been AB&D’s Head Winemaker since 2016, has packed a lot of winemaking experience in his short 29 years, working across vintages in McLaren Vale, Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Germany’s Rheinhessen, Italy’s Barolo and USA’s Monterey. Sam has applied knowledge from each vineyard he’s worked in to Alpha Box & Dice, helping the wines evolve and improve with each vintage.

While alternative varietals are their forte, AB&D  champion the integrity and overwhelming quality of South Australian fruit above all else, with Dylan’s brother Justin spreading the AB&D story further into new markets all over the world as Export Director. Back home, the young, passionate and enthusiastic team grow their networks and influence as a leading South Australian producer who make innovative – yet indubitably drinkable – products.

With a culture soaked in community, quality and a laissez-faire spirit, Alpha Box & Dice will continue to inspire, delight and surprise in everything they do.

And they do a lot.
