This batch of 6270 pieces, bottled on 23/07/2012 consists for 58% of the 2008 vintage and for 42% of the 2009 one. Two thousandths that the winemaker Michele Manelli found incredible in quite a different way: strong and linear the 2008, deep and romantic the 2009. Hence the search for the perfect blend, with the support of an historical adventure companion such as Paolo Vagaggini and all Salcheto technical team, to reach the perfect tannic texture and feel these souls merge into something superlative.
Born in the white grape rows of the Poggio Piglia vineyard, gathered at the first rays of noble rot, it is fermented and aged in “tonneaux”. It is then completed as a “blend” of different vintages in a search for balance, drinkability and versatility: during a meal it combines with both sweet than savory and is equally comfortable as an aperitif or after dinner. All this is then made even more attractive by the use of “grapes only” in the process (no added sulfites, or anything else you can imagine).
Salcheto is… Sangiovese, Quality and Sustainability
Salco means the willow tree in the ancient Tuscan language, an important plant for wine territories throughout history as its branches were used to bind the vines. Salcheto is the name of the stream , which springs at the foot of the town of Montepulciano and winds through a valley where willows abounded. This stream is the boundary of our organic and biodynamic estate, rooted in the historic district of Vino Nobile, in the southeast of the Siena province of Tuscany. The willow tree, a species that we continue to replant at the winery, also contributes to the winerys energy independence, is today prominently represented in our logo as part of our commitment to environmental sustainability.
