Fernand

Fernand Ginestet was born on 30 December 1871, in Bordeaux. 1897, Fernand Ginestet founds “Ginestet & Co” and settles on the symbolic Quais de Bacalan in Bordeaux.

Demonstrating true entrepreneurial vision, Fernand Ginestet applies himself to uniting its interests of viticulture and trade. He pioneers what is today called the “Interprofession Bordelaise”, by creating the “Estate and Trade Union”, which in 1948 becomes the Bordeaux Wine Council. He also had a special interest in music and sport and was the principal founder of the “Bordeaux Society of Sport Park”.

It is to him that we owe the acquisition of the Lescure Park, now renamed Chaban Delmas staduim. With the FERNAND range, Maison Ginestet pays tribute to its founder and honours his spirit of innovation, sharing and conviviality

Villa Burdigala

Bordeaux, the city of historic and cultural heritage, was founded between the third and the first century BC. Under the name of “Burdigala”. From that sumptuous era, the “Gallien Palace” ruins are the last trace still visible today in Bordeaux. This period is also marked by the appearance of the vine, newly cultivated around the city and assuring the prosperity to the villas of Burdigala.

Sensitive to the cultural value of the ancient heritage, the Maison Ginestet creates a Bordeaux wine range dedicated to this rich past : “Villa Burdigala”

TYPE OF SOIL : clay-limestone hillsides

VARIETALS : 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc

TASTING NOTES : This Bordeaux boasts a garnet-red colour with good intensity and purplish tints. The highly elegant bouquet rolls out red fruit scents, such as redcurrant and raspberry. The purity of the fruit in the bouquet announces a lovely full sensation on the palate. The attack is clean, delicate and well rounded.

In mid-palate, powerful yet silky tannins are revealed and we find the same sensations as on the nose. Served at a temperature of 16° to 18°C, it goes beautifully with red meat or stronger-tasting cheeses.

Know-How And Quality

MONITORING AND QUALITY ARE TOP PRIORITIES

Maison Ginestet’s policies remain faithful to Fernand Ginestet’s philosophy. It supports its commercial activities by monitoring wine production through partners with holdings in the different Bordeaux appellations. This allows Maison Ginestet to ensure that it is offering quality wines, and provides its commercial partners with guaranteed monitoring over time, adding value.

For holdings, these partnerships offer non-continuous monitoring carried out by GINESTET teams, advice on culture methods and maturity checks, and the opportunity to participate in vinification and blending for the creation of products.

Furthermore, at the instigation of Maison Ginestet the majority of holdings have opted to earn the label of sustainable agriculture for their activities.

They are thus committing to a comprehensive approach to production management which aims to strengthen the positive impact which agricultural practices can have the environment, even beyond the measures stipulated by regulations. In order to complete this environmentally-friendly approach to winegrowing, Maison Ginestet has gained the certification required to bottle wines made from organically-grown grapes and offers a complete range of these.
