A.O.C CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2016 RED

Wine tasting :
The  Chateauneuf  du  Pape  Coralie  et Floriane  is  an  equal  part  blend  of  Grenache, Mourvedre  and  Syrah  from  80-to-130-year-old
vines.  Although  the  Mourvedre  and  Syrah  are aged in new oak, the wine does not reveal much wood in the bouquet or flavors. Rather, it exhibits plenty  of  deep,  dark  berry  fruit  (blackberries), camphor,  licorice  and  incense.  This  full-bodied, well-made effort is one of the strongest 2011s I tasted. Enjoy this serious Chateauneuf over the
next decade.
From : Robert Parker

The marriage of dishes and wines :
With a game bird or a game animal with ancient vegetables, this wine will be the perfect companion.

Feature :
Very complex wine, this special reserve is unusual by the aromatic intensity of very ripe black fruits and spices (liquorice, cloves). A full-bodied attack leaves the place quickly to gentle tannins, a warm flesh, aromas infiltrated of blackcurrant and blueberry with overtone of thyme. The final is grandiose.

Type of soil :
Clayey - calcareous soil and rolled pebbles.
Grape varieties  / age : Grenache 1/3 (130 years) - Mourvèdre 1/3 (100 years) - Syrah 1/3 (80 years)

Wine making and maturing :
Grapes are sorted and picked by hand, maceration from 25 to 30 days, with the control of temperatures, de-stalking, regular release and treading, maturing in new barrels for 18 months before the conditioning in bottles.

Development :
Can be tasted from now, will reach its maturity in 8 to 10 years

Jancis Robinson : 17/20 (England)

About us

Company details

This is my history, myself Frédéric Charvin
Once up on a time…

In the years 1855, at the head of Pécoul Domain, Antoine and his wife Sophie, my great great grandparents were the creators of the small farm. At the time, the activity was limited to the family needs, the sale in bottles was not practiced. They bought 5 hectares in total, situated next to the Popes’ castle to the side of the hill.

In 1920, their son Pécoul François and his wife, my great grand-parents still continued to grow their vines. They began to plant new types of vines in order to enlarge the vine yard.

(The Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC dates from. 21 November 1933 and the delimitation of the appellation dates from. 15 May 1936.)

In 1950, their sons Louis and René Pécoul my great uncles succeeded to them. Thanks to the last mentioned, the vineyard has expanded because they worked very hard. They could buy parcels of vines gradually, everywhere in the label of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The marketing of the sale in bottles started in 1960.

This wine inheritance was saved during generations with the greatest attention so as to offer you wines of characters, which make famous the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.

In 1989, I looked in charge the vineyard, me Frédéric Charvin their great nephew. It was my turn to create my firm : entitled S.C.E.A Domaine de Pignan. I gave the name « Domaine de Pignan » to our wines.

It’s with the help of my little family that I can see the expansion of the vineyard.

I also replant new varieties of vines (roussanne, grenache, clairette, counoise etcetera…)but I preserve and maintain meticulously the 3 hectares of a hundred years old vines that have been entrusted to me from my ancestors.

I modernized and extended the cellar in order to be able to improve always the working conditions and the conveniences.

And then, I modernized the farm equipments ( the tractors « etcetera…)
