“R” de Rieussec

BORDEAUX BLANC

WHY BUY IT ?

  • One of the most prestigious signatures of Bordeaux
  • The vineyard and the terroir of Rieussec are simply magnificent
  • A wine with an impressive aromatic palette
  • A discrete production (2 to 3000 cc x6)
  • The Dry White produced in Sauternes has the wind in its sails
  • A constant price, vintage after vintage
  • The arrows of the Rothschild family

In the history, and particularly in the 18th century, Domaine de Rieussec belonged to the monks of the Carmelites of Langon. The confiscation of the Domain to the revolution led to its sale in 1790 as “National Good” to Mr. Marheilhac, owner at the time of Château La Louvière in Léognan. In the 1855 classification, Mr. Mayne is the owner. The quality of the Rieussec terroir is recognized as the Premier Cru Classé of Sauternes and Barsac. From this date, the history of Château Rieussec is dotted with changes of ownership. Château Rieussec was acquired by the Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1984, the estate then had 110 ha including 68 ha of vines. To better express the Château’s potential, rigorous measures are put in place with, among other things, more meticulous grain sorting and fermentation in barrels, which allows a much finer selection during the blending of the great wine. “R” de Rieussec is the dry white wine produced by the Sauternes estate. It is partly from the same vineyards that will give the Great Wine.

The terroir of Château Rieussec is one of the most important properties of Sauternes, the vineyards cover 93 ha of land of gravel, felted with silt. The grape variety is 90% Sémillon, supplemented by 7% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle. From the year 2000, the renovation of aging cellars, the construction of a fermentation cellar and the technological evolution of the reception and pressing room also make an additional contribution to the ongoing qualitative effort since 1985. The techniques used are traditional in Sauternes and the grape harvests are done in several successive sorts according to the state of ripening of the grapes. The traditional reference of a vine to produce a bottle of wine in Médoc is here rather a vine producing a glass of wine! Over the years, the production equipment has undergone successive renovations and modernizations, including the construction in 2000 of a new barrel cellar. In addition, very regular and high quality qualitative assessments are carried out. The cellars are located in the heart of the Château Rieussec vineyard in Fargues. Each sorting from a well-identified plot is isolated in a batch of barrels to appreciate its ability to enter or not into the great wine after the end of fermentations. Each vintage is aged in oak barrels mainly from the Domaines cooperage and half renewed each year.

At tasting, “R” de Rieussec offers a powerful and harmonious wine, with notes of citrus, mango and other exotic fruits.

Aile d’Argent

BORDEAUX BLANC

"Aile d'Argent... Two unusual words, from the depths of time, links between the past and the present, between my father Baron Philippe de Rothschild and me. When I was a little girl, my father had indeed imagined for me a tale, whose heroine was a magical teapot. His adventures enchanted me and rocked my childhood. This teapot was called Aile d'Argent. -

By Philippine de Rothschild
WHY BUY IT ?

  • Limited production, a rare wine
  • The dry white wine of Ch. Mouton Rothschild
  • The know-how of the Château Mouton Rothschild team, Premier Grand Cru Classé from 1855
  • Recognition of the international press every year

Aile d’Argent is a Château Mouton Rothschild wine and was born thanks to a beautiful history. Indeed, wanting to reconnect with an old Medocan tradition, Philippine de Rothschild decided to plant on its soil, in the early 1980s, a few hectares of white grape vines. Initially, it was Filipino’s father, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, who loved to tell a tale he had imagined for his daughter, whose heroine was a magical teapot. When the war took place, the Baron was imprisoned, and it was during those years that he wrote this tale, which he called Aile d’Argent la Magique.

Its sandy-gravelly terroir is planted with Sauvignon Blanc (53%), Sémillon (35%), Sauvignon Gris (11%) and Muscadelle (1%), with a density of 9000 feet per hectare. The wine is raised for 50% in new oak barriques.

For the tasting, Aile d’Argent is at once rich, complex and elegant. Although produced in very small quantities, it has become in a few years a reference for lovers of large dry white Bordeaux.

Château Goudichaud (Rosé)

GRAVES DE VAYRES
"Notre unique objectif est votre plaisir"

By Yves Glotin

WHY BUY IT ?

  • A superb clay-gravelly soil associated with a family know-how transmitted from generation to generation
  • A pleasure wine: dense, smooth and well-fleshed
  • Modern techniques for making wines
  • A discreet but promising appellation

The history of Château Goudichaud goes back to 1780 when the architect Gabriel, a student of Victor Louis (architect of the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux) draws the plans of the master house of the estate. Château Goudichaud is located on the banks of the Dordogne, opposite the prestigious appellations Saint-Emilion, Pomerol and Fronsac. Belonging to the Glotin family, the estate is one of the reference properties of the appellation, both for the quality of its wines and for its ability to produce substantial volumes. The wine “Château Goudichaud” bearing the name of the property, is the standard wine and shows a great finesse.

The one-piece terroir of Château Goudichaud consists of 100% Cabernet Franc for the Rosés, planted on a gravely soil of gravel carried by the Dordogne. The vine is worked in double Guyot, disbudding and stripping. The winemaking is done in a winery built in an 18th century building and benefiting from all the modern techniques of wine making. The aging lasts 8 months in French oak barrels.

At the tasting, Château Goudichaud Rosé offers a nose with aromas of wood fruits reminiscent of spring smells. In the mouth, the freshness predominates, its round flesh reveals strawberry and white peach. It’s just fun!
