About us

Company details

Terre del Barolo winery was set up on 8 December 1958 by Arnaldo Rivera, distinguished teacher
and mayor of Castiglione Falletto, and 22 growers in the various villages in the neighbourhood. The
number of partners soon grew to 40, and by the first harvest in 1959 there were already 362
members.
These were difficult years for the market, but right from the outset sound, diligent management has
allowed the company to pursue a philosophy based on quality, commercial reliability and genuine
local wines.
It has certainly contributed also to the reputation of these products, and consequently to the
economy of the whole wine-growing area around Alba, absorbing a considerable proportion of the
total production of grapes.
In 1978, anticipating the self-control regulation in force today, Terre del Barolo introduced a
technical assistance program for its grower members, encouraging them to protect their vineyards
and the surrounding environment.
Located in Castiglione Falletto in the heart of the Langhe, today the winery brings together about
300 growers who own more than 600 hectares of great vineyards in the villages of Grinzane Cavour,
Serralunga, Monforte, Diano d’Alba, Barolo, Novello, La Morra, Verduno, Roddi and Castiglione
Falletto.
These grapes are vinified following traditional procedures using modern technology.
The main focus is for Barolo docg, which undergoes the main part of its maturation in French and
Slavonian oak casks, and represents the highest volume; smaller quantities of wines produced with
local grapes (Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto) are available as well, included the renowned little
appellation Verduno Pelaverga and Nascetta di Novello.
The latest exciting venture of the winery are represented by:
- a new organic line including Barolo docg, Nebbiolo d’Alba doc and Barbera d’Alba doc
- the ArnaldoRivera project, named after the founder of the cooperative, and designed to
highlight the quality of many of the top vineyards of Barolo which have always been part of
the winery heritage.
- the restyling of the company and costruction of new spaces which will concern:
- the underground portion of the Cellar dedicated to the wooden barrels for the fining and aging of the Barolo and other important red wines;
- a part of the warehouse for the aging in bottles of the wines themselves, before the release on the market;
- the rebuilding of the existing Cellar plants, together with the installation of new systems , aimed at sustainability and respect for the environment;
- the creation of new reception areas for cultural activities directly connected to the wine world.
