The winery Castiglioni is located in the heart of the Chianti region (Tuscany), on the hills below Castello dAlbola. Not far away is the medieval town of Radda in Chianti. The picturesque resort, situated between Florence and Siena, is located in one of Italys most beautiful areas, with its characteristic gentle hills and mountains, where ancient places and well cultivated vineyards with terraced olive groves emerge between wide, almost primeval oak forests.
The small village of Castiglioni, which gave the winery Fattoria Carleone di Castiglioni its name, was fi rst mentioned in 1078, the year it was founded by the monks of Badia a Coltibuono. The estate on which wine has been grown for centuries, is owned by the Austrian Karl Eggers industrialist family. The property, which covers an area of approximately 90 hectares, is a composition of wooded hills, small rivers and fertile plains, in the picturesque locality of Castiglioni with the farm Pian Vecchio. In between, mainly Sangiovese and Merlot are grown on just over 10 ha. The enterprise includes 5 hectares with some 60-year-old olive trees.
Senator Karl Egger and his friend Sean have bet on organic farming since the beginning of cooperation.
