Balasto

The ballast soil at Bodega Garzón is decomposed granite rock with excellent drainage and minerality. It is ideal to provide the complexity, energy and vibrancy we wish to give to this iconic Uruguayan wine.

This first edition blend contains Tannat, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Marselan.

The aroma presents notes of fresh red and black fruit, complex and elegant spices.

In the palate, the tannins are juicy and vibrant with energy and vitality associated with an excellent texture and a long finish.

Collaborating with international wine consultant Alberto Antonini, we apply our philosophy that wines should truly represent its origin.

Albariño Single Vineyard 2016

The uniqueness of this vineyard lies in its southern orientation, assuring shelter from intense sun and direct exposure from the ocean breeze. This heightens the vibrant minerality of the varietal.
Thanks to the coastal climate and with a terroir similar to those found in Galicia, Spain, in Bodega Garzón we decided to plant the Albariño variety, which has become the icon of Uruguayan white wines. The singularity of this wine lies in its southwards orientation. It ensures the protection from the intense sun and is directly exposed to the oceanic breeze, which stresses the vibrant minerality of our Albariño Single Vineyard 2016. This is an ideal wine to accompany steamed seafood, grilled sole with orange sauce or delicate prawns with curry rice. Apart from those, Iberian dishes such as fried sardines or an intense vegetable couscous reveal its fresh and vibrant notes in palate.

This Albariño was harvested in its right ripening point in order to keep its characteristic elegance and freshness. It is of a pale yellow colour with greenish reflections and fruity aromas reminding of peach; balanced with citric notes. It is fresh and mineral with marked acidity and a long and rounded aftertaste in mouth.

Twenty percent of its fermentation time is carried out in untoasted oak barrels from between 3 to 6 months and 80% occurs in concrete tanks.

Cabernet Franc Reserve 2015

The multiple plots in Garzón cover both hill slopes. The size is less than a hectare for each plot and they have different orientations and humidity levels. This fact allows developing different little vineyards and creating a special environment where native forests are combined with big rocks and natural palm trees.

This is the best place for the Cabernet Franc Reserva 2015 to ripe. Its production process takes between 6 and 12 months and is carried out in 50 HL untoasted French oak barrels and bottis.

Its colouring is purple and intense and has violet reflections. This noble red wine has mineral aromas coming from ripe peppers, spices and fruits of the forest accompanied by a subtle chocolate note and smoked hints coming from selected barrels. It has an impacting mouth with nice tannins, mixing prunes and ripe blackberries with fresh eucalyptus and mint notes that make it very complex.

Garzón’s soil belongs geologically to what is known as Crystalline Basement, which originated 2.5 billion years ago. As it altered and eroded through millions of years of geological processes, ballast, like the previous rock formations, gave shape to this fantastic thin and rocky soil, with excellent drainage and very rich in minerals which the vine roots absorb. This endows the wine with mineral wealth, excellence, complexity and gracefulness. Garzón’s soil is a rather charming concept related to the terroir and very easy to explain: a clear, strong message for all premium wine lovers

The sea breeze in our wines
Another fundamental feature of our terroir is the crucial influence exerted by the Atlantic Ocean, which is only 18 kilometres (11 miles) away. This provides a constant and very pleasant fresh breeze that blows through our grapes, something recognizable in our wines too. Hence the vibrant notes of our fresh, mineral white wines, as well as their significant varietal character. In turn, our red wines are fresh and juicy, showing gentle tannins and a delicate mineral touch.
