HAHN PINOT NOIR

The grapes for this charming, fruit-forward wine grow primarily in the cool-climate Arroyo Seco region of Monterey County. This region sits on a gravelly alluvial plain at the foot of the Santa Lucia mountains.  Cool winds from Monterey Bay ensure gradual ripening and ideal development of vibrant flavors. After harvest, we age this wine in French oak (40% new, 60% neutral).

This Pinot Noir’s charismatic aromas include red cherry, ripe strawberry, cola and spice.  Flavors of plum and black cherry are completed by a soft mouthfeel.  Supple tannins and a bit of acidity end in a beautifully balanced and clean finish.

HAHN CHARDONNAY

The Chardonnay grape favors cooler climates.  Most of the fruit for this wine grows in the Arroyo Seco appellation of Monterey County where cool winds from Monterey Bay bathe the vineyards. This climatic condition causes fruit to ripen slowly, resulting in balanced, vibrant flavors, while the region’s rocky-loam soils help juxtapose ripeness with acidity.  Our own vineyards in Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco AVAs are a significant source of fruit for this Chardonnay.

This rounded and supple Chardonnay delights with aromas of pineapple, mango, pear and vanilla that gracefully give way to flavors of green banana, baked apples and toffee.  Its ample mouthfeel reveals a delicate acidity beautifully balanced with a lingering note of sweet butter on the creamy finish.  We age this 100% Chardonnay in 40% new French oak, with the balance in neutral oak.

HAHN PINOT GRIS

In Monterey County where the fruit for this wine grows, cool breezes from the Pacific Ocean slow down ripening and allow the fruit to develop vibrant flavors and brisk acidity.  Our own vineyards in Santa Lucia Highlands and Arroyo Seco AVAs are a significant source of fruit for this Pinot Gris.

Once harvest is complete, we ferment the grapes in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This cool and neutral method of fermentation preserves delicate floral and stone fruit aromas and contributes to a bright finish. Enjoy notes of peach, tart pear and banana, along with a silky mouthfeel and crisp acidity.  Flavors of Meyer lemon and green apple complement the finish.

During the 1790s, Spanish missionaries recognized the rare soils and favorable climate of the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey and planted grapevines there. Yet nearly two hundred years later when our founder Nicolaus (Nicky) Hahn and his wife Gaby first purchased land in the Highlands, cattle, sheep and horses ranged over the hills. Vineyards were a secondary concern.

Nicky immediately saw that the land he’d purchased was destined for greater things than grazing stock. He wasted no time. In 1980, the Hahns released their first wine from SLH. A mere eight years later, Nicky led the charge to establish SLH as an American Viticultural Area, a dream he saw realized in 1991.

Today, Hahn Family Wines, now run by Nicky and Gaby’s son Philip, owns and sustainably farms 650 acres of estate vineyards in the Santa Lucia Highlands. SLH enjoys worldwide acclaim for the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay made there.
