Barbeito Single Cask Verdelho 2000 Cask 4 d+e

DENOMINATION
Madeira D.O.P

GRAPE VARIETIES
Verdelho

VINEYARDS
Single vineyard located in São Vicente, north coast of the Island.

BLEND
This Verdelho 2000 Colheita Single Cask 4 d+e was produced exclusively with grapes from the same vineyard as the previous (Verdelho 1996). It is a vine owned by the farmer Agostinho Andrade Junior and his family with whom I have a very special relationship for many years. The fact that the grapes had origin in the north coast of the island, São Vicente, contributed decisively to the explosive acidity of this wine that almost disguises completely the concentration obtained over the last 14 years of aging by the traditional process of Canteiro, in a French old oak cask. In June 2015,
1.116 bottles have been filled, all individually numbered.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Alcohol: 19,38 % Vol.
Baumé: 1,7
Total sugar: 61 g/l
Volatile Acidity: 0,84
Total Acidity: 7,74
pH: 3,35

SERVING & CELLARAGE
Serve best at 11/12Co. This wine was filtered and does not require decanting. It was bottled ready for drinking and will keep several months after opening.

TASTING NOTES & HARMONIES
Gold color with greenish highlights.
Fresh pine aromas, ripe citrus, green tobacco leaf, cloves, a bit of smoke and quite nutty.
Well-structured and mineral, with a constant dryness and a magnificent acidity.
Spiced and lingering finishing.
Excellent as an aperitif.

Barbeito Frasqueira Sercial 1978

DENOMINATION
Madeira D.O.P

GRAPE VARIETIES
Sercial

VINEYARDS AND VINIFICATION
Grapes from various quality vineyards from Seixal and Ribeira da Janela.

Grapes were pressed in a continuous press.

BLEND
My family still continues to preserve the traditional methods of making and aging Madeira wine.

This 1978 Sercial was aged by the traditional Canteiro method since February 1979. In February 2008 I transferred the wine into 60 liter demijohns where it has been kept until today. By doing so I managed to contain the rapid concentration occurred in the wine during its 29 years of aging in cask, thus maintaining the balance between the sweetness and acidity which I found to be the ideal in this wine. In March 2015,

600 bottles have been filled.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Alcohol: 19.68% Vol.
Baume 1,1
Total Sugar: 48 g/l
Volatile Acidity: 0,96
Total Acidity: 8,5
pH 3,36

SERVING & CELLARAGE
Madeira wine should be kept vertically and in cool dry place. Decanting is recommended, serve best 16oC or low room temperature 18oC. It will keep well several months once opened.

TASTING NOTES AND HARMONIES
Gold colour with greenish hue.
Luscious bouquet with sweet spiced notes, caramel, nutty, pine and light varnish. Very stylish and smooth fresh palate.
Well balanced acidity and a dry lingering finish.

About us

Company details

Vinhos Barbeito was founded in 1946 by Mário Barbeito de Vasconcelos and has since then always been run by members of our family.

At the time of Barbeito’s foundation over 30 other Madeira Wine exporters were operating in the business. Little by little, Mário Barbeito gained clients in many parts of the world, always trying to build a good and close relationship with them. Some of our actual clients and suppliers are still from his time.

Mário Barbeito passed away in 1985 and his daughter Manuela de Vasconcelos, took over the general management of Vinhos Barbeito. She was already working for the company since 1976.

One of Manuela Vasconcelos most important tasks was to continue her father’s work of strenghthening relationships with customers and promoting our wines at prestigious wine fairs around the world. This policy is still maintained to this day.
