The Sannio Wine Consortium was set up on February 1999, and today it is made up of nearly 400 members subdivided into vine growers, wine-makers and bottlers.
The Consortium plays a very important role in the development of collective issues, thus aiming at popularizing what it is and what it demands, by estimating and protecting some types of wines labeled DOP and IGP in the province of Benevento. Basically, the Consortium deals with the development of label policy, hence, using strategies to safeguard general concerns, increase the value of the product, protect it and control it.
One of the main objectives aimed at is to bring forth the real and definite value of the protected origin denomination. This brings together both the territory and the producers who have typical characteristics in common, their history and their culture, thus, confirming the double function of the denomination of origins, one that gives the consumer a guarantee and the other that gives information and communication.
The Sannio Wine Consortium was granted, on behalf on the MIPAAF, D.M. n. 6965 on April 2013, the recognition and charge to protect, promote, give value and control, the consumers information, and monitor the interests of the DOCG Aglianico del Taburno , of the DOC Falanghina del Sannio, and Sannio itself, according to art. 17, 1, and 4 of the Law n. 61 2010.
