DOMINIKUS Riesling Sekt zéro - Kaseler Dominikanerberg

The Dominikaner Weingut C. von Nell-Breuning is the oldest sparkling wine manufacturer in the Ruwer Valley. Our sparkling wines are manufactured using the champagne method and mature through bottle fermentation in the traditional way. We exclusively use our Riesling grapes as the base wine and allow the wine, after its secondary fermentation in the bottle and storage on the yeast over two years, to mature and develop its richly nuanced minerality. All our bottles are hand-riddled.

Vineyard: The delineated, enclosed Dominikanerberg vineyard is one of Germany's rare monopoly estates, owned exclusively by the von Nell-Breuning family. With its steep slopes and barren blue slate ground, Kaseler Dominikanerberg provides the perfect microclimatic conditions for Riesling wines which are distinctive by their elegance and minerality, frequently exuding blackcurrant aromas. The steep south/south-west facing slopes include gradients of up to 50%.

Sparkling wine: DOMINIKUS Riesling Sekt zéro has matured on the yeast for 2 years and shows a delicate Riesling flavor, with a touch of yellow apple. On the palate, DOMINIKUS is very elegant with a fine mousseux. It shows a cooling minerality which adds to its elegance and character.

2011 NB PRIVAT Kaseler Nies´chen Pinot Noir barrique

Vineyard: The Kaseler Nies'chen is one of the Ruwer Valley's premium estates and enjoys a reputation all over the world. The blue/coppery coloured deep-lying clay-slate dating from the Devonian era indicates the high mineral content of the ground at first glance. It produces wines of finely structured, subtle minerality, with well-balanced acid and lots of fruit, body and play. Thanks to its good water supply, this estate not only produces outstanding Rieslings, but also the winery's top-class Pinot noir reds. The Nies'chen is a south-facing slope with an inclination of around 60%.

Wine: This wine has been made of a selection of our best grapes and has matured two years in a new wooden barrel (barrique). 2011 was a vintage of extremely good quality, with full-bodied and rich wines. NB Privat pinot noir shows the body and the volume of that exceptional vintage. Velvety nose, some dried herbs and light peppery notes, black and some red berries, cherries, hint of vanilla and tobacco, bay leaf, delicate toasted notes, fairly prominent mineral notes. Clear and juicy on the palate, full-bodied, fine sandy tannins, light oak, some tobacco, slightly noticeable warm alcohol, good persistence, mineral traces, herbaceous and smoky notes on a very good finish.

About us

Company details

The Dominikaner Weingut C. von Nell-Breuning is a family  winery in the Ruwer Valley. Since 2013, Dr. Carmen von Nell-Breuning continues the family’s winemaking tradition in the Mosel, Saar and Ruwer into the 11th generation.

The Ruwer Valley is a tributary to the Mosel. Here on the steep slate slopes incomparably light and mineral Riesling wines of great elegance and longevity are grown. Classic wines, famous around the world.

We concentrate on the noble grape varieties of Riesling and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). Two varieties which are well known for their transparent expression of terroir. Also, as the oldest Sekt producer in the Ruwer Valley, we produce sparkling wine from Riesling through traditional bottle fermentation.
