2011 NB PRIVAT Kaseler Nies´chen Pinot Noir barrique
Vineyard: The Kaseler Nies'chen is one of the Ruwer Valley's premium estates and enjoys a reputation all over the world. The blue/coppery coloured deep-lying clay-slate dating from the Devonian era indicates the high mineral content of the ground at first glance. It produces wines of finely structured, subtle minerality, with well-balanced acid and lots of fruit, body and play. Thanks to its good water supply, this estate not only produces outstanding Rieslings, but also the winery's top-class Pinot noir reds. The Nies'chen is a south-facing slope with an inclination of around 60%.
Wine: This wine has been made of a selection of our best grapes and has matured two years in a new wooden barrel (barrique). 2011 was a vintage of extremely good quality, with full-bodied and rich wines. NB Privat pinot noir shows the body and the volume of that exceptional vintage. Velvety nose, some dried herbs and light peppery notes, black and some red berries, cherries, hint of vanilla and tobacco, bay leaf, delicate toasted notes, fairly prominent mineral notes. Clear and juicy on the palate, full-bodied, fine sandy tannins, light oak, some tobacco, slightly noticeable warm alcohol, good persistence, mineral traces, herbaceous and smoky notes on a very good finish.
