This Sauvignon has a round textured mouth feel, great balance and fresh supple acidity. The Den wines are comfort wines, and this wine delivers just that.

The story of this wine
‘Guillermo’ Swartland Pinotage is named after our good friend and pack member, Billy ‘Guillermo’ Hughes. Billy and his late wife, Penny, were amongst the first investors in our dream, trading grapes for a share in Painted Wolf. Billy is an uncompromising exponent of organic and naturally farmed grapes with a keen interest in biodynamics. For a number of years Jeremy helped Billy make his Nativo wines. From 2013, Kasteelsig vineyard has been organically certified. Our friend Jenny Metelerkamp who lived with us at Lloyd’s camp, Botswana produced the fine Painted Wolf ink drawing for our logo and the pack labels.

A rich harmonious full bodied wine with juicy dark fruit, savoury smoked ham, all spice and aromatic wood aromas. The wine has a coating mid palate and a long finish. The acid is bright and the tannins are ripe and present.

The story of this wine

Pictus is named after the scientific name for an African Wild Dog, Lycaon Pictus, meaning Wolf in Greek and Painted in Latin. Pictus is made with meticulous care and blended from our favourite wines of the vintage. Each vintage of Pictus is labelled with a different piece of artwork. The artwork for Pictus V is a watercolour by our dear friend and co-conspirator in all things design and art, Lori Bentley. Production of Pictus V was limited to just 5400 bottles.

The story of this wine
Pictus is named after the scientific name for an African Wild Dog, Lycaon Pictus, meaning Wolf in Greek and Painted in Latin.  Pictus is made with meticulous care and blended from our favourite wines of the vintage. Each vintage of Pictus is labelled with a different piece of artwork. The artwork for Pictus IV is a study by the highly regarded South African conservationist and artist, the late Keith Joubert. Permission to use the work was kindly granted by his wife, Val. Production of Pictus IV was limited to just 2400 bottles. Painted Wolf Wines donate a portion of their turnover to conservation projects throughout Southern Africa.

We are dedicated to the production of authentic, distinct and delicious wines, and to the conservation of African Wild Dogs and their natural habitat.

Wine, wanderings and african wild dogs (painted wolves).

Founded by Jeremy and Emma Borg, drawing inspiration from the African Wild Dog, our own Painted Wolf pack is a community of talented individuals who bring the best available grapes, technical and practical skills to Painted wolf, allowing us to craft a range of delicious, authentic satisfying wines.

Jeremy has 30 years experience working with wineries in USA, UK and here in South Africa. He has a keen understanding of both wine making and the market and set out with a fresh and different approach. The goal is to build a community of passionate caring individuals who through grapes, co-operation, teamwork and mutually beneficial relationships bring the best available technical and practical skills to Painted Wolf. Jeremy is a visionary, with a burning passion to develop Painted Wolf Wines into an exceptional organisation, true to our mantra ‘Persistently remarkable, remarkably persistent’.

Emma draws on her wide experiences from working in hotel, catering and safari camp management, and collected whilst travelling and working on her adventures in various parts of the world. Her time spent photographing vineyards and wine cellars for various publications developed her knowledge and understanding of wine. She began by building solid foundations upon which to grow the company and in the last few years also travels to primarily new markets using her networking skills and telling the Painted Wolf story.

Painted Wolf Wines is privileged to be associated with some of the most respected conservation organizations operating in Southern Africa including UK based Tusk Trust, Children in the Wilderness and the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) in South Africa. Since 2007 Painted Wolf Wines has donated over R2.5million towards conservation projects.
