Refosco is a red wine that originated from an ancient vine of Friuli Venezia Giulia. This deep ruby-red wine expresses an ethereal, slightly vinous bouquet that is full of personality. The flavour is dry, full, with body and vaguely bitter. Roasts and game are particularly enhanced by this wine, which is also ideal to accompany other robust dishes typical of Friulian cuisine.

Known since Roman times with the name of Pucinum, the Terrano is considered a wine that is good for the health because of its iron content. It stands out for the exuberance of its malic acidity, the wild fragrances of raspberry and blackberry and the typical intense ruby red colour, with shades of violet, for the fact that it is bottled six to eight months after harvest, which allows it to express all of its typical traits. The limited tannin content and moderate alcohol content, albeit with considerable acidity, make it an averagely well-structured wine, ideal with cold cuts and typical dishes of the Karst plateau. If drunk young, this wine can also accompany fish with a high content in fat, especially eel.

About us

Company details

The Azienda Agricola Castelvecchio stands just above Sagrado, where Gorizia’s Karst offers an extraordinary natural and peaceful scenery. The view from this plateau (150 m. above sea level) is unique and embraces the whole region, from the Julian Alps to the nearby Gulf of Trieste. The rich landscapes blend marvelously with the noble, ancient origins of the area which is still embodied by the Renaissance Villa and by the park dotted with the cypresses and old oak trees of the vast forest estate.

This land has seen splendor and ruin alternating through the years and still challenges man with its dif_cult dry and rocky soil, capable of producing wines of great character from the vineyards located in the heart of the estate. Castelvecchio has been owned by the Terrano family since 1986, and the family has enhanced it whilst greatly respecting its history and demonstrating a deep love for the fruits of the earth it produces.
