Intense aromas of blackcurrant, crushed lemongrass and thyme mingle with passionfruit and melon highlights.
A complex and elegant wine with classic characters of blackcurrant bud and fresh cut thyme. Underlying ripe fruit and mineral notes from the grapes grown in the Blind River sub region of Marlborough combine well with the more tropical notes of passionfruit and melon from the Wairau Valley vineyards. A stylish and pleasingly rich Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with vibrant aromatics and a fine balance of acidity leading to a lingering finish.
Fragrant aromas of spice, pear and stonefruit mix with underlying notes of brioche and freshly cut spring flowers, this is a medium bodied and textural wine which shows flavours of ripe pear and white peach, with a touch of spicy nutmeg. This wine has beautifully ripe fruit flavours and is silky with good palate weight. The finish is both succulent and lingering.
Tinpot Hut 2016 McKee Vineyard Marlborough Grüner Veltliner
Delicate aromas of orange blossom, citrus and stonefruit blend with hints of sweet floral honeysuckle.
Grüner Veltliner is a very textural wine. Flavours of white peach mingle well with the subtle peppery spice notes. Mineral complexity, which is so reflective of the Blind River sub region, gives this wine a clean and crisp appeal. The balance of the fruit, acidity and phenolics work beautifully together and lead to a long dry finish.
Intense aromas of black cherry, blackberry and plum mingle with a hint of redcurrant. Savoury mushroom and toasty oak characters complete the attractive nose.
Classic black cherry notes dominate the palate and are supported by hints of bramble, reflecting the aromatics. Structurally the tannins are soft and silky and well balanced acidity ensures good length and weight.
Following on from the exceptional success of our 98 point 2016 vintage, our 2017 Tinpot Hut Sauvignon Blanc has been awarded a Top 100 Blue Gold Medal at the Sydney International Wine Competition in November.
Judges Warren Gibson said "Very attractive. Fresh and vibrant. Excellent wine. Lifted and pure with excellent richness and length...” and Brent Marris commented “Lovely bright green notes on nose following through to palate. Great acid balance with lovely tension coming through in the wine. Good concentration right through to finish."
Tinpot Hut's owner and winemaker Fiona Turner began developing her Blind River "Home Block" vineyard in Marlborough's Awatere Valley with husband Hamish in 2005. Originally part of a large sheep farming station, Fiona acknowledged the origins of her Home Block vineyard by naming her range of wines after the historic "Tinpot Hut"; a Marlborough landmark frequented by high country musterers.
Now fully mature, the Home Block's Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir are the foundation of Tinpot Hut wines today. Select parcels of Blind River Grüner Veltliner and Hawkes Bay Syrah add further diversity to the range.
