Tessiture Red 2011

Region : Rhone Valley vineyards – AOP Luberon

Grape varieties : 37,5% Syrah, 37,5% Grenache Noir, 25% Pinot Noir

Soil and climate : Calcareous clay with pebbles. South exposure. Mediterranean character with the affluence of a continental climate, originating in the Alps and the Rhone Valley.

Wine-making process: Picked and sorted with a machine. Fermentation in oak barrels with a pigeage by hand (method which involves pushing the floating skins back down into the fermenting wine) for a good extraction of color, aromas and tannins. Ageing in oak barrels during 10 months.
Grenache and Syrah are the main grape varieties used for this red spicy wine. But above all Tessiture red wine takes advantage of its touch of Pinot Noir which is a tolerated atypical grape variety in Luberon that brings elegance and original  black cherry overtones. Note that Château de Clapier is the only wine-growing estate in Luberon being authorized to use this grape variety and that until the 50th Birthday of the Appellation Luberon that is to say in 2038.

The « tessiture » of a voice indicates the whole of the notes which a singer is able to emit. This wine is the remarkable example, it summarizes all the work of the vine grower in his search for perfection: intense and silky, perfect marriage of the fruit and oak flavours, aromatic smoothness : the Nectar of Château de Clapier.

Description: Intense balsamic nose with notes of soaked black fruits, truffle, rosemary, chocolate, eucalyptus. The mouth is full, rich and generous with beautiful aromatic tannins. Generous and powerful, Tessiture is perfect to be served with a gourmet’s menu.

Serving tips : Matches well with game in crust, beef stew, a shoulder of lamb in herbs or mature cheeses.

Soprano White 2016

Region : Rhone Valley vineyards – AOP Luberon

Grape varieties : 70% Roussanne, 30% Grenache Blanc

Soil and climate :  Calcareous clay with pebbles. South exposure.
Mediterranean character with the affluence of a continental climate, originating in the Alps and the Rhone Valley. The proximity of the Durance (river) creates a micro-climate which preserves a good freshness to white wine.

Wine-making process: Picked and sorted with a machine. 56% of the production are fermented in oak barrels of 500 liters with an ageing on lees during 6 months. The rest of the production (44%) is fermented in a vertical ovoid tank which takes advantage of the micro-oxygenation that is made possible by the clay-cement material. In this giant “egg”, the lees are continuously forced upward by an internal current resembling a vortex and provide structure, complexity and smoothness to wine. Soprano is a melodious and refined wine: a tribute to the music and Opera.

Description: Colour with golden tints. Floral and ripe fruity nose with a touch of honey, vanilla and a discreet spicy hint. A rich white wine with roundness and smoothness. Generous, harmonious and long-lasting, Soprano is definitely a gastronomic wine.

Serving tips : Matches well with blanquette of veal, cep ravioli, lobster with saffron sauce and blue-veined  cheese.

About us

Company details

Château de Clapier is a family wine-growing estate (AOP Luberon) bought in 1880 by our great-granduncle. It is currently managed by Thomas Montagne.

Thomas Montagne has combined modern techniques and traditional know-how to provide the vines with the best growing conditions and the wines with the best ageing conditions. Each year he creates characteristic Luberon wines in the spirit of today’s independant winemakers.

The desirable quality of our land has been recognized for centuries - a gift of nature that we prize and uphold. We obtain high quality grapes thanks to the southern exposure of our stony slopes, the loving attention we give to our vines (growing grass between vines for a better aeration and to slow down the production of the vine), and the restricted yields (green harvest, de-budding) we demand. We also work in a rational way of farming (minimal treatments) to obtain grapes with good quality.

Thomas Montagne produces a range of 12 different wines which reflects the potential of the Luberon terroir, combining the power of Rhône and the sunshine of Provence.

Grenache and Syrah are the main grape varieties used for our red spicy wines. Cinsault is the basic grape variety of our rosé wines. Eventually, Black Pinot which is a tolerated atypical grape variety in Luberon is also used and brings elegance and original  black cherry overtones in our blends.

(Note that Château de Clapier is the only wine-growing estate in Luberon authorized to use this  grape variety and that until the 50th Birthday of the Appellation Luberon.)

The white wines are produced from four traditional grape varieties : Roussanne,  White Grenache, Clairette (one of the oldest grapes in Provence) and White Ugni. The cooler nights of the Luberon give some surprising aromatic white wines.

We will be delighted to welcome you on our stand 11C132 (Inter-Rhone’s banner) in order to introduce you our range of Luberon wines.
