The ridge which is home to the Mondo family cellar bears a striking resemblance to the profile of a sleeping woman.
The specific composition of the soil and a temperate microclimate make it the ideal place for cultivating vines.
The Mondos have been recognised in the town of San Marzano Oliveto, near Asti, as wine-makers for generations and are, as such, much appreciated.
Their estate covers about twelve hectares of vineyards, approximately 60 % of which are dedicated to the cultivation of Barbera grapes while the rest is divided between Moscato Bianco, Dolcetto, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cortese, Chardonnay and Favorita varieties.
The company, which still maintains its artisan, family character, is run by Valerio, his daughter Beatrice and his father Franco.
Valerio and Beatrice are eonologists and as well as
concerning themselves with the agricultural aspect of the
vineyards they supervise each step of the grape selection and the wine-making process which takes place in the family homestead, just a stones throw from the vineyards and Franco is the agricultural expert responsible for the various stages of cultivation.
Among the most important wines – all of the Mondo familys wine are D.O.C. and D.O.C.G. – the Barbera dAsti is perhaps the most important of all.
The range is completed by the other wines: Moscato dAsti, Passito of Moscato, Monferrato Dolcetto, Cortese dell Alto Monferrato, Monferrato Bianco, Monferrato Rosso and Grappa obtained from the artful distillation of Moscato and Barbera marc.
