Bosque de Matasnos

The Bosque de Matasnos (BMA) vineyard is situated at an altitude of 950m, which is said to be almost at the maximum limit for vines to survive in Spain.

The Bosque de Matasnos Limited Edition uses only the best raw materials, selected first in the field and later through belt selection. Harvests of 3,000 kg per hectare, mainly from old vines.

“The colour is intense, deep, bright cherry. The depth of colour is achieved through long maceration with the skins.”

“The nose is pleasant, very clean and intensely fruity with red and, above all, black fruits of the forest. Ripe cherries give way to blackberries. A superb, subtle integration of elegant spices from tobacco and cocoa to leather and vanilla. Sweet dairy notes begin to appear with aeration”.

“The taste is intense, full-bodied, powerful but elegant and, above all,
very fruity. Again predominantly a mix of fruits of the forest with hints of red fruit and cherry liqueur, which give way to an aftertaste of spices, tobacco and dried fruits. Limited sediment.”.

About us

Company details

The Matasnos vineyards are located in Peñaranda de Duero, Burgos, 18 kilometres from Aranda del Duero in the direction of Soria, on the highlands of the Ribera del Duero, 950 metres above sea level.

In this wine region of Spain vines are not easily grown at altitudes higher than 1,000 m due to frost, ripening difficulties and other problems inherent to the climate, so we can say that we are almost at the limit of the natural zone for growing vines in the Ribera del Duero.

Interestingly, despite being at this altitude, our vineyards do not usually suffer problems with frost. In fact, being on a well-ventilated plateau and sheltered by our forest protects us from frost and enables the grapes to ripen slowly due to the great contrasts between day and night temperatures of up to 20 degrees that are widespread during the growing season.

This climate, combined with the soil characteristics of the Ribera del Duero, guarantees grapes of exceptional quality, without which this great wine could not be produced.

Our goal is to increase awareness of the Ribera del Duero ALTA, whose thermal characteristics are without doubt a distinguishing feature in our DO.
