Valdepeñas DO – Spain Winemaker: Maria José Marchante Winery: Bodegas Navalón
VINEYARDS & WINEMAKING Tempranillo grapes were hand picked from 30 year-old vines in stony vineyards – Valdepeñas means “valley of rocks” – in late August/early September. The soils are clayey lime and there is a chalky layer which retains water to refresh the vines. Altitude helps moderate summer heat, as the climate in Valdepeñas is classic continental, with cold winters and long hot, dry summers.
Fermentation was at controlled temperatures (26-28º C) in stainless steel tanks for 8-10 days. The wine was then matured for at least twelve months in oak barriques with varying toasting levels.
Guy Anderson Wines specialises in bringing top quality European wines to the UK off-trade. Best known for developing leading classic French brands, La Châsse from the Rhône Valley and Calvet from Bordeaux, Guy was also creator of the world famous and unforgettable Fat Bastard range. France continues to be a favourite country of ours, but Spain and Italy have become sources of new inspiration in recent years. We offer a unique combination of highly desirable agency brands like La Châsse, where we represent the producer, and carefully crafted wines of our own. Our talented team includes winemakers in situ, working hands-on with our suppliers to ensure consistent quality.
European wine regions offer the most thrilling and diverse wines imaginable. Our role is to present these effectively to attract wine drinkers who might otherwise pick up the ubiquitous, big name New World brands.
Based in leafy Somerset, South-west England, we concentrate on selling our growing portfolio of wines to all the top retailers in the UK. However, our horizons know no bounds, so brands created in South Petherton can be found all over the world. North America is a key market for us, but consumers in countries as diverse as Australia and Mexico or Russia and Ireland are enjoying our wines.
