FUORICLASSE LEON RISERVA 3 ANNI

Product category

Brown Grappa, 0,70lt 38%Vol.alc.

Grapes

Fuoriclasse Leon Riserva is obtained by distilling red and white grapes.

As soon as the pomace arrives at the distillery it is treated and preserved with grappasystem®, a system created by Roberto Castagner for controlled fermentation through the addition of selected oenological yeasts.

Grappasystem® also ensures that the pomace is preserved in an ideal, healthy, oxygen-free environment at the right PH inside a tunnel of plastic food film under high pressure. This is the secret for keeping the aromas of the pomace intact in a completely natural way for up to several weeks.

Distillation

It occurs partly in traditional water bath stills and partly in technologically advanced plants in order to obtain the maximum finesse on the palate. Before bottling Grappa is made to rest for a period of 36 months in barrique.

Sensory features

Grappa Fuoriclasse Leon 3 years presents an aromatic framework of great expressive force. The flavours are intense, recalling sweet spices , with hints of fruit. In the mouth it is soft and harmonious.

About us

Company details

The company and its profile

Castagner distillery is a company which was born in 1996 from a project by Roberto Castagner, an oenologist who graduated from the oenological school of Conegliano. After 20 years’ experience in the field, he decided to start up on his own in an attempt to renew the products and processes.

The factory, located in Visnà di Vazzola (TV), a few kilometers from Conegliano Veneto, today extends for over 55,000 square meters of which 18,000 square meters are indoors and include distillation units, refining, ageing and processing warehouses, bottling plants and areas for the storage of the finished products. Moreover, an important area, of about 1,000 square meters, is devoted to research and control laboratories and others for sales and administrative offices.

The storage and fermentation of the grape marcs covers an area of 15,000 square meters, completely covered with appropriate flooring, designed to combine requirements of logistical efficiency with the compliance to the rules of an ecological nature (Grappasystem® method). This allows for the processing of 250-300,000 tons of raw material, which means a production of about 4.5 million bottles.

The production plants are the most modern and innovative available today. Moreover, many of them were designed and developed by the in-house technical-scientific staff in which the company has always invested greatly in order to secure competitive, efficient, and state-of-the-art developments.

Market Growth

Following the start-up period, during which the company focused on third-party processing of the bulk product, in 1998 it began also to manufacture bottled products, so that it equipped itself with 3 bottling lines, which makes it one of the largest in Italy.

The production and sale of packaged grappa started with the purpose of controlling the modern channel (Large-Scale Retail Trade) by offering both products branded “Castagner” and Private Label products, specifically tailored for each of the major chains of the Large-Scale Retail Trade. Until today, more than 50% of the bottles placed on the “Private Label” market is manufactured in the Castagner’s factory. Regarding the customers in this channel, the company supplies and is a partner to the most important national and international groups.

After focusing its attention on the sales in the domestic channel, the management realized the importance of controlling the HoReCa sector because of the impact the sale of products in this channel has on brand awareness, and its positive repercussion on sales in the Large-Scale Retail Trade.

The last frontier of the commercial development of Castagner was its approach to foreign markets. Even here, once the company had realized the potential that grappa could have abroad, they developed lines of tailored products and built up an efficient network of relationships with importers and distributors in Europe, Russia, Brazil, the United States of America, Canada, Brazil, China and Korea.

Goals achieved and future targets

In 2016 the company reinforced its market share, which on the whole, represents 12%. The growth of the distillery during the last few years has been constant.

In fact, in the modern channel, the company soared from 500,000 bottles in 2001 to over 1.5 million bottles in 2015. This puts it in fourth place among the Italian manufacturers of distillates.

At present, the company exports about 8% of its total production, but the foreign market is definitely one of the main targets for future development, taking into account also the new-generation products that have been placed on the market.
