Stephen Vincent 2014 Chardonnay, Sonoma County

The 2014 release of this Robert Goyette-created treasure maintains the style that Robert first developed with his Chardonnays in the early 80’s. It is lush and velvety with a hint of butter and pretty French oak notes. As a veteran master of Sonoma County winemaking, he has access to some of the finest fruit and chooses to use grapes from both the Russian River and Sonoma Carneros for this particular wine. The 2014 vintage is approximately 62% Sonoma Carneros and 38% Russian River. It is primarily tank fermented with a smaller percentage of barrel fermentation. This allows him to maintain the integrity of the Chardonnay aromatics while blending in some rich, sur-lies aged wine to add his characteristic “sweetness” to the blend. The 2014 Stephen Vincent Chardonnay is a great food wine but is also particularly satisfying as your “go to” wine when you just get off of work and want something to unwind to.

Stephen Vincent 2014 Pinot Noir, Sonoma County

Robert Goyette knows Pinot. A lot about Pinot. After all, he’s been making Sonoma County Pinot for over four decades. And one of the wonderful things about working with the grape for so long is that he knows where all the perfect vineyards are located to create this exceptional wine. Robert chooses the Dry Creek Valley for the bulk of this blend with its warm, inviting flavors and spicy red fruits. He also uses a smaller percentage of Sonoma Coast fruit to add some acidity and high-tone aromatics to round it out. We don’t think you’ll find a better wine for the price anywhere. And what makes it even more of a value is that you’re getting over four decades of experience in every bottle.

Stephen Vincent 2013 Merlot, North Coast

Although winemaker Robert Goyette is a Pinot Noir and Chardonnay specialist, he is also incredibly adept at producing big, beautiful Merlot wines. Perhaps because Merlot is really a cool climate grape, much like the aforementioned varietals, or perhaps it’s only because he’s a damn, fine winemaker. Robert sources the grapes for his North Coast Merlot from select vineyards in Sonoma County and Lake County and blends the two to produce a wine with grace and structure. The combination of the black cherry from Sonoma and the bright red fruits from Lake County yield a wine of depth and complexity unlike many Merlot wines found in California. The addition of a little Cabernet Franc lends more mid-palate tannins and a lengthy finish. You’d be hard pressed to find someone who takes this varietal as seriously as he.

Stephen Vincent 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon

Trying to pin down what a California Cabernet Sauvignon should taste like is awfully difficult given the wide range of styles found throughout the state. Different growing regions, different climates, different soils all make for unique flavors and aromas. In this case, our winemaker, Robert Goyette, pulled together the best wines he could from Paso Robles, Lake County, and Sonoma County and made a masterful blend, combining the best from each region into a seamless wine with loads of flavor. This cuvee is a blend of 65% Paso Robles, 22% Lake County, and 13% Sonoma County fruit. Even though there might not be a distinct California style, this wine has awesome written all over it.

Stephen Vincent 2013 Crimson

A wine like this is the most fun to make for any winemaker, including ours, Robert Goyette. As this is a big, red blend with no varietal significance, the winemaker gets to piece together a wine that has no other mission than to just taste yummy. Robert created a cuvee that is remarkably similar to the original bottlings of this wine. Lush, dark flavors and a density of sweetness are the principle hallmarks of Stephen Vincent Crimson. The varietal composition and appellation breakdown may change a little from vintage to vintage, but the goal will always be to produce a wine that is as big and bold as the state of California.

Broadside 2015 Wild Ferment Chardonnay, Central Coast

Wild Ferment is our unique interpretation of Central Coast Chardonnay. Pacific Ocean adjacent sites provide naturally stressed vine conditions with fog and wind serving as ideal temperature and moisture control respectively. We leave them mostly untended through the growing season to encourage canopy growth and subdue overt ripeness.
Keeping with our less-is-more approach in the cellar, fruit is whole-cluster pressed before its fermentation by native micro-flora. It remains on its lees with no stirring or mixing, slowly progressing through alcoholic and partial malolactic fermentation.

Broadside 2014 Margarita Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles

The Broadside Margarita Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is the result of our faithful effort to capture a pure and unadulterated representation of grape and site. With 1000 feet of elevation and a chilling coastal influence, the well-drained soils at Margarita Vineyard provide a balance of stress and sustenance to the rugged vines. Their fruit is marked by small berries, concentrated flavors, and fine tannins. While robustly fruited in its youth, Broadside Cabernet Sauvignon is also graced with an underlying framework of subtle tannin and acidity that ensures a bright future in the cellar as well.

3-Ball 2014 Zinfandel, Paso Robles, Sonoma County and Amador County

3 of the best Zinfandel appellations brought together to make a wine that combines the best characteristics of each region. We primarily source our Sonoma County fruit from both the Dry Creek Valley, known for its amazingly dense, spicy, and muscular wines, and the Russian River Valley where cool temperatures yield wines of depth and great acidity. Our Paso Robles component hails from the West Side where ancient vines deliver flavors of raspberry jam and spices. The mountain foothills of Amador provide a rustic and warm component to the blend adding layers of brambly fruit. We add some Petite Sirah and Carignane to tie all of these Zins together with a blueberry/cranberry epoxy. We hope you find this wine to be a perfect representation of how you showcase these three great regions in one bottle. This is 3Ball.

Sea Monster 2014 Eclectic White Blend, Central Coast

This is a really great wine for those that like to swirl, smell, taste, and attempt to distinguish what’s in a blend. Where trying to identify what goes into a red blend is far more difficult due to barrel use and other flavor and aroma confusing inputs, a wine like this, which contains the purest of varietals from the Central Coast and only saw stainless steel throughout its life, offers an opportunity for the Sommelier and the Sommelier-to-be to dive deep into the wine’s intoxicating aromatics, wild flavors, and balanced richness and try to figure out what it was that the winemakers were attempting when they settled on this particular assemblage.

Sea Monster 2015 Chardonnay, Santa Barbara County

There are so many wonderful options to choose from when selecting vineyard sources for a Santa Barbara Chardonnay. Each sub-appellation within Santa Barbara is unique. From the aciddriven wines of the Santa Rita Hills, to the floral Chards of the Los Alamos region, to the lush, fruit-bombs of the Santa Maria Valley. For the 2015 Sea Monster, we selected fruit from the Santa Maria Valley and added a little bit of White Hawk vineyard from the Los Alamos area. The result is a wine that showcases the best of the delicate aromas and flavors that the 2015 vintage yielded.
