About us

Company details

HIGHT ALTITUDE VITICULTURE
Poggio Cagnano is one of the highest sites in the Maremma Toscana at 450m. The estate rises at the site of a unique, impervious block of sandstone which dominates the area, from the antique tower of Manciano to the promontory of Argentario. The vineyard is located on a 12-hectare property with a species-rich landscape, surrounded by olive trees and oak forests. Our philosophy is to produce wines of great elegance and intensity on a small scale: vibrant fruit, with a good tannin structure, excellent acidity and well integrated subtle oak overtones.

TOP-QUALITY WINES
The winery focuses on the creation of top-class wines produced on a small scale. Our use of modern cellar technology is carefully focused to provide a supportive role in the making of the wines ensuring we can express the highest qualities of the grapes grown in harmony with nature. From our grapes we currently produce three different Maremma Toscana DOC red wines.

MIRCOVINIFICATIONS

Our limited production (max 3000 bottles for each wine) allow us to carry out separate vinification techniques, even for the same variety of grape, from start to finish. Microvinification is a winemaking technique achieved by hand that begins with a selection of the harvest’s best grapes. The entire maturing of the wine is completed in a single French oak barrel; this establishes an exceptional collaboration between the grape and the vessel for the production of our ultra-fine varietals and blends.

OUR STORY
barriques boutique winery poggio cagnano vino maremma toscana microvinifications microvinificazioni
My father had the vision - the vision and the persistence to make it happen. I remember when I was young and he first brought me here, in 2005 to Poggio Cagnano. It was wild, impervious, impenetrable, sharp, almost vertiginous. We wanted to create a great wine, in this place. After ten years we are proud to present the result of this great adventure.
