LA TREMENDA Monastrell


Variety: It is a 100% Monastrell wine made from our vineyard named “La Tremenda”, which is situated 600m above the level of the sea. The soil in this vineyard is sandy limestone, and the age of the plants that are planted is 30 years old. All treatments related with the vineyard are environmental friendly. (Do not use any insecticide, herbicide, pesticide...)

Date Of Harvest: The First fortnight of October, 2014. Manual vintage.

Process: After macerating for 2 days, the fermentation was done in small stainless steel deposits, over a period of 6 days at 24º-25º temperature, with short and frequent overpumpings.

Ageing: This wine has aged for 6 months in French barrels.

This wine is cherry red, in nouse shows aromas of fresh fruit with hints of toasted and coco
 In the mouth is fresh but at the same time is fleshy with volume and length.

            Estrecho is a 100% monastrell wine, made from only one plot of land located at the “Estrecho de Pipa” in Villena, situated at 700 metres above sea level and with some land characteristics which make it unique. 

            The vineyard lives over fine sand which is poor in organic materials and this allows the plant to perfectly reach its aromatic maturity without exhaustion or stress.

            It is a traditional vineyard with 1500 plants per hectare formed in cup and without any irrigation support. The fertilizer is made from ecological sheep manure which is fermented by us.

            It is a vine in which we work with the concept of zero residue, this means it has never received any weedkillers or of course, any insecticides, we only work with sulphur in powder, copper, and natural biological help like the “bacillus turugensis” for the moth and a lot of conscience.

            This wine has remained for 15 months in French oak barrels.


           The colour is ruby red with some maroon reflections, without complexions and without being obsessed about the extraction, clean, gleaming and bright.

            In the smelling phase we find a lot of fruit in the point of maturity joined perfectly with wood, without this predominating. At this moment balsamic notes clearly appear, under forest, humus, wet land, pine, rosemary, mature red fruits and fig bread accompanied by fine smoked notes and cedar given by the combined French oak barrels of 500 litres.

            On the mouth it’s fine, with sweet and granulated tannins. The wine is fresh and acid, which will help it live and compensate. The alcoholic graduation is very long and oily.

            Estrecho is a wine with soul, it’s prepared to have it now and the following years. As a concept we have searched for the delicacy and elegance of this variety, starting with the selection of the land and obliging us in the wining not to over extract, press or compress.

            It is our little tribute to the province of Alicante, with this wine you’ll enjoy the sun, our land and our people.

Santa Rosa was born due to the restlessness of our family towards vine growing, manufacture and aging of the wine.
With this wine we want to commemorate the person who transmitted the passion towards the world of wine, in this case Mrs Rosa Cortes Devesa, mother of the actual and only founder Mr Enrique Mendoza Cortes.

           This assembly (70% Cabernet, 15% Merlot and 15% Shiraz) has been manufactured with grapes selected from our vineyards at our country house El Chaconero at Villena. We have collected the bunches with the smallest grapes. The grapes ferment with environmental yeast searching for a greater depth of the wine. The wine ferments at 28ºC, and has a post-fermentative soaking of 12 days.

            This wine was made at our barrel room in Alfaz del Pi   during 17 months in new barrels made of French oak from Allier.
           Wine of a high layer. Red ruby colour, intense with red tile sparkles acquired with the aging.

            On the smelling phase it is very mineral, reminding us of graphite, humus, black stones and freshly farmed land. These mineral aromas finally entwine with spicy notes, soothing and floral like the violet.

            On the mouth it is very well balanced, uniting power and elegance with a firm tannic charge on the centre of the mouth, without concentrations or aggressiveness.

            The aftertaste is large and harmonious and the smoked and toasted notes acquired with the pass by the barrel return once more.

Company details

This winery was born thanks to the passion for wine. And this passion has never stopped growing. The project was forged at the end of the 70’s, when Enrique Mendoza became extremely interested in world of wine and decided to continue the tradition in “La Marina Baixa” of making wine for family consumption. Today the first plants have transformed into two wineries, one for the ageing and bottling of the wine in Alfaz del Pi, from which our wines are positioned in the national and international markets and a second one in Villena( “Finca El Chaconero”), close to the “ Virgen de las Virtudes” sanctuary.
