Veguín de Murua Gran Reserva 2006

The grapes which are used to make Veguín de Murua have been carefully selected from very old vines, some of which are almost one hundred years old, situated in Bodegas Murua’s best plots, at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria Mountains. Due to this peculiarity, production is limited to 2,500 Kg./Ha.

Made using traditional methods to preserve the character of the terroir to the upmost, this wine is made with malolactic fermentation over lees in French oak vats. It is then aged for 24 months in new French and American oak casks before being rounded off for a minimum of 6 years in our bottle racks. Barrel Fermented Murua Blanco 2014

Made with the three white Rioja varieties selected manually during harvest from the tops of the vines, and then once again at the sorting conveyor, bunch by bunch.

The wine is fermented on its lees, following an old, traditional formula, at room temperature in Bordeaux barrels of new French and American oak. During the process the best lees are selected manually, depending on their aromas and flavours, and blended during the whole winter in a process known as ‘bâtonnage’. The wine is then bottled directly from the casks.

The acidity makes this mature wine lively and joyful. The contrast between maturity and freshness is very surprising.

About us

Company details

Murua sits on a small hill just outside Elciego enveloped by the historic vineyards which surround this traditional bodega. From theoutset, the winery has strived to create top quality estate wines.

The vineyards are divided into 8 plots, mainly planted with red grape varietals (Tempranillo, Grenache, Graciano and Mazuelo). In order to achieve the best possible expression of the different soils in the estate, special attention is paid to factors such as soil composition and structure or orientation and sun exposure of the grape clusters. Silence, darkness and the slow passage of time permeate the cellars where its classic, elegant wines are made; genuine treasures that are painstakingly fashioned from the terroir through to the bottle.
