Real Rubio M. Luz 2014

Viura, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Verdejo and Malvasía

Harvested at the beginning of September. Grapes picked in the cool of the morning and taken straight to the vats for cold maceration before fermentation. Bled after 48 hours, with the temperature controlled carefully from maceration right through until the end of alcoholic fermentation.

Tasting notes
Brilliant sheen. Gold colour with bright glints at the edge. Fresh, clean aroma on the nose with soft, yet intense, fragrances, mingling the fruit and flower aromas. Long and intense. On the palate, a soft attack, opening up into a pleasant sensation which balances crisp acidity with a soft mineral character which is typical of the grape variety. Long, complex and persistent.

Food pairing suggestions
Ideal wine to accompany white fish dishes, shellfish, blue fish, smoked fish and cold starters.

Best served at between 7° and 9° C.

Mar & Luz Sweet Wine 2013

Muscat aux petits grains.

Harvested into 200-kilo wooden crates. Cooling of the grapes and vinification at a controlled temperature, 12-15ºC, to preserve the aromas intact.

Tasting notes
Pale yellow colour with golden hues and viscous legs on the side of the glass. Fruity varietal aromas, especially of pear, peach, quince, dried figs or fruit in syrup. You can also find hints of bay leaf, mint, nettles, etc.  Silky and slightly sweet in the mouth but not cloying, reminding you of the fruit that you detected in the nose, with this range of aromas broadening in the retronasal phase.

Food pairing suggestions
To accompany hors d’oeuvres, foie, savoury toasties or with a dessert, pastries or any sweet.

Best served at between 10 - 14ºC.

Real Rubio Rosé 2014


Picked by hand from the stems and taken straight to stainless steel vats at cool temperatures for cold maceration with the skins prior to fermentation. The rosé must is bled off at just the right moment to achieve the desired colour and aromas. Controlled fermentation at between 13ºC and 17ºC in order to preserve the fruit aromas.

Tasting notes
Bright, pale pink colour over a soft strawberry base. The bright clarity and liveliness of the wine shows it was made slowly and carefully, reveals its youthfulness and conveys exactly what the winery wants to achieve: modernity and elegance, taking the grape from the vine to the bottle. Intense yet discreet floral aromas, and sharp red berries such as strawberries, raspberries and redcurrants. A soft, elegant mouth feel, long and with wrap around acidity and excellent minerality. Food pairing suggestions
Perfect to accompany aperitifs, (charcuterie, cheeses, canapés…) pasta dishes, blue fish. Also good with meat or stews, thanks to its crispness and long finish.

Real Rubio Vision

The story of Viñedos Real Rubio began over one hundred years ago at the hands of our great grandparents, who began grape growing in the area around Monte Yerga, cultivating vines at a height of between 400 and 500 metres. Subsequent generations recognised the problems of the soil and climate conditions of those plots and expanded their property so as to follow the growing trend towards growing grapevines.

To that generous legacy, we, Mari Luz and Javier, together with our children, have brought our own personal determination to preserve and widen it, through a family project leading to the creation of our winery, Viñedos Real Rubio, in 2004.

These days, we have over 90 hectares of planted vines whose differentiating feature is the range of diversity of grape variety and the great age of many of them. Our vineyards are home to most of the official varieties of the Rioja Designation of Origin: Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, Viura, Verdejo, …  and, in addition, we have vines over 60 years’ old alongside other younger ones less than a decade old.  This diversity, managed using novel, environmentally respectful growing practices which seek to extract the best qualities from each parcel, provides us with excellent raw material for turning into wine.

From these grapes we make our wines, with respect and rigueur so as to keep their natural virtues intact throughout the winemaking and ageing processes.
The results are personal, elegant wines which refresh and surprise those who try them.

We are strict and demanding in both the vineyard and the winemaking process. We hold the ISO 9000 quality management accreditation and also the BRC protocol.

For us, wine and the vineyards constitute a way of understanding life which goes way beyond the mere act of growing and making wines, something we have tried to capture in our winery.  Those who visit us can enjoy natural surroundings which are dominated by vineyards, get to know our estate and our winery, and relax for a while in our tasting room or on the terrace, quietly savouring a glass of wine. With the same desire to educate people about the culture of wine, we organise fun events and wine tourism activities to give visitors another reason to come to Viñedos Real Rubio.

Consequently, and despite the hard work and effort that is involved in working in an activity at the mercy of nature’s whims, we feel privileged to be able to transmit to our customers a whole world of sensations revolving around wine.
