Ijalba Maturana Blanca

Encounter with history
This variety was first encountered in La Rioja en the year 1622. The grape called Maturana blanca has provided us with a contemporary wine. Almost extinct before being rescued by as a joint effort, gives us a wine to remember, with its golden tint, intense aroma of tropical fruit and full-body.

This wine is the result of an effort to save almost extinct grape varieties from the Rioja.
This R&D project was setup up with the partnership of the Consejo Regulador DOCa Rioja (DOCa = Appellation), the university of La Rioja and CIDA (Centre for Research and Development in Agriculture). The vineyards are cultivated organically.

It is the first wine in the world made from the Maturana Blanca variety.

Young dry white, can be drunk while young but, yet maintains its quality for several more years and is known to have a positively interesting bottle evolution.

Ijalba Graciano

A classic reinterpreted
First 100% Graciano ever to be produced in La Rioja and this in the year 1994.
We only use grapes from our own vineyards to produce this single variety Graciano.
Graciano is a very concentrated small grape. It yields not so much juice but all the more color, acidity and a very interesting aroma. The remark by older generations here in La Rioja concerning Graciano is not in vain: “This grape gives grace to the wines of La Rioja”.

Ijalba Maturana Tinta Dionisio Ruiz Ijalba

A taste of memory
The first wine in the world made with Maturana Tinta.
Maturana Tinta is an indigenous minority variety which has practically disappeared in La Rioja.
As part of an R&D project in which the Consejo Regulador DOCa Rioja (DOCa = Appellation), the university of La Rioja and CIDA (Centre for Research and Development in Agriculture) participated we cultivate a 4 hectare vineyard.

This single vineyard wine is a work of art made from this minority variety that was almost forgotten. DRI (as we call it) gives life to a unique wine After malolactic fermentation in barrel the wine obtains its undenieable personality.

The wine has great intensity and profound aromas, it is silky and full bodied.

About us

Company details

25 years of recovering terrain and native grape varieties

Viña Ijalba owns around 85 hectares (this number increases slightly every year) of vineyards spread throughout the region surrounding Logroño, San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Valle del Najerilla.

All our vineyards are planted on top of obsolete open cast mines in an effort to care for and restore the environment.
Our wines are made with classical Riojan grapes as well as minority autochthonous grape varieties like Maturna Tinta and Maturana Blanca.
