Product category: Israel, Kosher Wines

Special Reserve White

Grape Variety: 60% Roussane, 40% Marsanne (extraordinary Mediterranean varieties originating from the Rhone Valley)
Winemaking Notes: After pressing the grapes and a slow and controlled fermentation process, the wine is aged (sur lies) in French oak barrels for eight months. Following the maturation period, the winemakers decide on the blend after a Series of tastings. To preserve the wine’s complex character and natural acidity, it does not undergo malolactic fermentation at all.

Tasting Notes: An especially rich and complex wine, full-bodied, good, balanced acidity and a long, fruity aftertaste. The wine is now ready for consumption and will continue to develop and improve in the bottle in the coming years.

Alcohol: 12.5%

Wild Carignan

Grape Variety: 100% Carignan
Winemaking Notes: The grapes are handpicked, and after destemming, cold maceration, fermentation and pressing, we mature them in French oak barrels – approximately half of which are new – for 12 months. This is so the oak flavors and aroma do not overpower the exclusive flavors and aroma of the fruit. The wine is then bottled after coarse filtration alone and drunk as is – authentic, wild and Israeli.
Tasting Notes: The wine has a black plum, berries and pecan taste, with a full body, balanced acidity and a long and spicy aftertaste.
Alcohol: 14%
Vineyards: Judean Hills – Dry Farm Vineyard (unwatered). The Carignan is trained as "Bush Vine," a trellising system used in ancient times. The roots wind and twist into the soil – to the more mineral areas – in a constant search for water, which causes the aroma and color so unique to this wine.

Cabernet Franc, Upper Galilee

Cabernet France-Upper Galilee is produced in limited numbers and exclusively sold through the “Derech HaYayin” store chain.
Grape Variety: 100% Cabernet Franc
Winemaking Notes: The grapes arrive at the winery in the early hours of the morning. Destemming is performed without crushing the grapes and while attempting to maintain the wholeness of each grape during fermentation. This process gives the wines a fruity, refreshing and flowery character. Fermentation is controlled at low temperatures for 7-10 days to allow the final product to become soft, velvety and refined
Tasting Notes: The wine has a characteristic Cabernet Franc aroma of plums, cherries, fresh green pepper (typical of the variety) and an aroma of Mediterranean spices accompanied by oak fragrances.
Alcohol: 13.5%

About us

Company details

Recanati Winery was established in 2000 by Lenny Recanati and Uri Shaked. Their aim was to create a new winery which would produce original, quality Israeli wine. The winery’s philosophy is to produce local and original wines, wines that will best express the local terroir.

Winemakers Gil Shatsberg, Ido Lewinsohn and Kobi Arviv spearhead the winemaking process. Shatsberg and Levinson are the winery’s Chief Winemakers. Shatsberg, a UC Davis graduate, acquired vast experience through his work in some of California’s leading vineyards – including the Trefethen Vineyards in Napa and Jordan Winery in Sonoma – as well as in top Israeli wineries, including the founding of the Amphora Winery. Lewinsohn, a graduate of the University of Milan, worked in prominent vineyards in the Rhone Valley and in Languedoc in France, as well as in Australia and Italy, including the exclusive Sassicaia Winery in Toscana. Arviv, the youngest of the three, began his career in the winery in 2006, and gradually learned the wine world by himself. He was appointed winemaker in 2011. A talented and original winemaker, Arviv believes in matching Mediterranean varieties to the Israeli climate. The winery has vineyards in the best growing areas in the country, and is very particular about growing unique Mediterranean varieties such as Petite Sirah, Marselan and Carignan and local varieties (Marawi), while simultaneously nurturing classic international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and others.

The winery is proud of its unprecedented achievements in recent years, both locally and internationally. However, we are not resting on our laurels and continue to cultivate new vineyards, conduct research in agriculture and wine, and – most importantly – we produce wine with great passion and a constant drive to improve and give maximum expression to the wonderful Israeli terroir at our disposal. Recanati Winery, the Symbol of Excellence.
