About us

Company details

Château Penin is located on a terrace of localized gravel, between a limestone plateau and marshland on the left bank of the Dordogne River, opposite the hill of Saint-Emilion.

This terrace of stony soil consists of red sand and rounded pebbles swept down from the Massif Central by the Dordogne in the quaternary period.

The vineyard has been in the Carteyron family since wine production began in 1854.

The oenologist Patrick Carteyron represents the fifth generation and took over the reins in 1982, determined to develop the wine’s quality. This has involved restoration and modernization work in both the vineyard and the winery.

There are currently 40 hectares of vines with an annual production of 270,000 bottles.
