Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Sergio Zingarelli Docg

The highest expression of Rocca delle Macìe winemaking, the Gran Selezione Sergio Zingarelli has a history that stretches way back, since it is the fruit of many years' work in the vineyards on the Le Macìe estate at Castellina in Chianti, where the Sangiovese grape comes into its own like nowhere else. This wine encapsulates the very best of the Chianti Classico production zone and its vineyards, as well as the painstaking efforts of everyone involved.

Rocca delle Macìe's Gran Selezione is part of a wider winemaking project that began more than 16 years ago with the replanting of almost all of the Sangiovese vineyards on the company's Le Macìe estate in Castellina in Chianti, with the long-term objective of producing a wine that could fully encapsulate the terroir and could take its place at the very top of the company's quality pyramid. With the “Chianti Classico Revolution” promoted by the Consortium, the fruit of this commitment has found its natural positioning within the new category.

Occhio a Vento Vermentino Maremma Toscana Doc

The Vermentino grapes cultivated in the sun-drenched vineyards of the Casamaria estate in the Maremma area, which was acquired in 2003 by the Zingarelli family, constitute the main component of this wine.

The name 'Occhio a Vento' (which roughly translates as 'Eye of the Wind' derives from an expression typically used by the fisherfolk of the coast of the Maremma to denote that vortex of clouds pierced by sunlight that is created when the weather is about to turn.

This particular atmospheric phenomenon is considered by the fisherfolk to be an augur of good fortune because it portends a successful day's fishing. Straw-yellow in color, the aroma offers up floral notes that recall acacia blossom and broom, which then give way to delicate fruity perfumes of apple and pineapple. The palate is dry, smooth and pleasantly fresh.

Vin Santo del Chianti

There are various hypotheses concerning the origin of the name Vin Santo (Holy Wine), though none have been proven to be historically accurate: the earliest references to it date back to the beginning of Christianity, when the name was perhaps used to denote a wine particularly suited to Mass; other interpretations attribute the name to the therapeutic effects that Vin Santo apparently had on the unwell, as if the wine were miraculous; another explanation is that the name has Greek origins – i.e. "wine of Xantos", a Greek island on which a similar wine was produced, the name then being transformed into the similar-sounding Santo.

The final explanation refers to the production cycle of Vin Santo, based on the timing of the most important religious festivals in the Christian liturgical calendar. Regardless of the origin of the name, Vin Santo is a wine very much based on tradition, because to this day it is produced in accordance with ancient rules that have changed very little over the years. In Tuscany, Vin Santo is the wine of friendship and hospitality, and is always center-stage when a toast is called for.

The Family's Philosophy
Our wine, the story of a passion

My father Italo managed to infuse us with his great passion for the Tuscan soil and for the art of making wine. In short, he gave us the desire and the enthusiasm to continue to write that never-ending story that links wine to the lives of human beings. With his cast-iron will, he taught me that to get an idea off the ground takes determination. We have always elected to offer wines whose quality and reliability correspond to – and increase in line with – the organizational prowess and professionalism of the business. We believe that the simplicity and authenticity of the relationships we have with our clients are indispensable requirements for any type of partnership. Our conviction is that companies grow and get better only by ensuring that they stay in step with the market and by persevering in the pursuit of their objectives.
