HAUSSMANN BARON EUGÈNE Fine wine from...Bordeaux
Haussmann Baron Eugène is our company’s flagship brand. Created in 2009 to mark the bicentenary of Baron Haussmann, the wine was produced by Nathalie Larraqué Haussmann as a tribute to her ancestor: Georges Eugène Haussmann. In 1853, Baron Haussman became prefect of Seine and drafted renovation plans for Paris of which he oversaw implementation. Obsessed by straight lines – known as the ‘axis cult’ in the 18th century – Haussmann opened up boulevards and avenues from the Place du Trône to the Place de l’Etoile, and from the Gare de l’Est to the observatory, leaving an indelible mark on French architectural heritage. His noteworthy stay in the Bordeaux region, his marked taste for fine wines and his marriage to Octavie de Laharpe, the daughter of a Bordeaux merchant and ship owner, in 1838, have spurred us to pay tribute to him. By creating Haussmann Famille, Nathalie Larraqué-Haussmann is paying tribute to her great-great uncle, Georges Eugène Haussmann. Through this wine, Nathalie Haussmann is perpetuating tradition and conveying the values of the Haussmann heraldry. Controlling the quality of our wines, from vineyard to bottling, is a priority for our company. To achieve this, Nathalie Haussmann has chosen to develop a long-term partnership with a Bordeaux vineyard owner. Drawing on a 520-hectare vineyard, Nathalie Haussmann and her quality director work in close collaboration with the estate’s owner to make Haussmann wines elegant and refined, produced in the purest Bordeaux tradition. The partnership gives the range a unique place in the world of branded wines, supplying estate-bottled, ‘grower wines’.
