BODEGA CARODORUM (DO TORO)

BODEGA CARMEN RODRÍGUEZ MÉNDEZ / CARODORUM

Bodegas CARODORUM is a small, family owned, artisan winery situated in the prestigious "pago" of La Cascajera, in the heart of the region of TORO. Quite simply, it was founded on the family´s passion for wine on the 2004.

Each bottle of Carodorum joins family values, small scale production advantages, modern wine making technology and traditional grape growing techniques amongst a backdrop of the TINTA DE TORO variety. This variety is the region´s point of difference and point of inspiration for the family at Carodorum.

Vineyards

The family owned vineyards are planted on the banks of the Duero River in gravel and limestone soils which create perfect growing conditions.

Following a strict selection and control process, each individual parcel of vineyard is harvested at its peak of ripeness and produced separately allowing Carodorum to produce wines which represent the individual parcels of land they come from.

Wine making

State-of-the-art technology is used to preserve the characteristics of the TINTA DE TORO variety. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled stainless tanks while a wide array of premium oak barrels are used for ageing. The wines are aged for a minimum of 6 months to add the necessary structure and depth.

Wine maker and tradition

The family of Guillermo Diez has been growing grapes in Toro for generations, but he is the first formal winemaker in his family. After completing his major in Oenology, Diez created his first vintage in 2003, and his wines are amongst the best in the region. Practically garage wines, only 65000 bottles are made. Everything is carefully crafted by hand.

The winery is located in the prestigious “pago” of La Cascajera, in the heart of Toro. The estate vineyards are planted on the banks of the Duero River, in gravel and limestone soils.

This part of Zamora is one of the very few places in Spain where Phylloxera never took hold. For our top wine (Carodorum Selección Especial), we use only grapes that come from ungrafted vines that are more than 100 years old.

Guillermo continues to take care of the vines in the same way his ancestors did—without pesticides or fertilizers; all organic matter is reused; the soil is plowed without machines (by hand in some cases); and the grapes are handpicked.

BODEGA REINA DE CASTILLA (DO RUEDA)

To talk of Bodegas Reina de Castilla is to evoke centuries of history and entire generations dedicated to wine-making in the town of La Seca, Valladolid. Traditional established family-run wineries both large and small have pooled their experience and wisdom in this new cooperative venture, inspired by the laudable enterprising spirit of the most forward-looking women of their time, such as Urraca I, Beatrice of Portugal, Isabella the Catholic and her daughter,Joanna I of Castile.

These formidable queens were committed to noble causes, promoting the expansion of Castile and the discovery of new worlds, changing the history of these lands and earning the respect of one and all.  Ambitions that the heirs to those medieval wineries seek to pursue with the Bodegas Reina de Castilla Cooperative, joining forces to create truly great wines capable of crossing borders, produced using the very best of their  inherited expertise together with the fresh approach and impetus offered by new technologies.

The design of our winery shares the essence of our wines. Brilliant and functional, this building reflects the evolution of those ancient medieval wines, enriched with the freshness and aroma of the modern age. Harmony, vitality and vigour, in keeping with the natural beauty of the mature vines that surround it. We can admire nature, art and mastery in this typically Castilian landscape, ready to contend with and make the most of what this climate has to offer…overwhelming heat in summer, freezing cold in winter, and mild springs filled with colour, as the countryside stirs back to life.

All essential elements to bring in excellent grape harvests in the rainy autumns.

It is said that the white wines produced in the region of Rueda were a favourite of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain, often served at celebrations and festivities, as they shared their regal good taste with noble guests. The wines produced by Bodega Reina de Castilla, with Rueda Denomination of Origin, boast all the virtues of the lands on which the verdejo grape is grown and truly are the heirs to those original wineries and vines that met with such royal approval.

A truly great origin for wines that are met today with great praise.

BODEGA TARSILA (CASTILLA Y LEON)

THE ORIGIN

The winery can be found on the Dehesa de Fuentes de Duero estate, an extraordinary and picturesque natural landscape in Tudela de Duero region (Valladolid) where the river Duero flows.

This place boasts a long crop and livestock farming and hunting tradition (since 1473) within the privileged surroundings of the “Ribera del Duero” and “Canal del Duero”, a habitat of exceptional value for such wildlife species.

This space of incredible natural beauty and value is home to both the vineyards and the winery.

A commitment was made in 1982 by Társila Fernández to revive the old dream and recover the wine-making tradition that once thrived at Dehesa de Fuentes de Duero. The most suitable plots of land were reconverted into vineyards.

LOCATION

The winery is situated in the village of Tudela de Duero, in the Spanish province of Valladolid, next to the Duero River, where the effects of the harsh Castilian climate and the long hours of sun on the clay and gravel soils provide the ideal place for the production of wine whose quality is recognized throughout the world.

CLIMATE

Climate: continental climate characterized by very cold winters and dry summers, with temperatures strongly contrasted between hot days and cool nights.
  • Altitude: 740-770 meters.
  • Vineyards: 30-35 year old
  • Soil: clay and gravel
HARVEST

The Tarsila winery is committed to obtaining the highest quality and this begins with the grape harvest.
Strict controls in order to ascertain the level of maturity of the grapes indicate the date for the commencement of the grape picking.
The vineyards of the winery ensure a production enough for obtaining about 50000 bottles of wine from plants which are treated with the greatest care as well ecological respect. The grape harvest is gathered by hand and the grapes are transported in perforated, stackable boxes with a 14 kilo capacity which ensures that they arrive at the winery in perfect condition.
Once at the winery, the best grapes are selected manually, bunch by bunch, as they pass along the selection belt.
Those which fail to reach our demanding standards of quality are rejected.

We have tried to produce a different wine at Bodega Társila, shying away from the classic results to come up with something in which the harmony between fruit and wood represents a balance that is capable of conquering the palate of all wine lovers. It is a wine to be enjoyed and impresses all who try it.
Tarsila aims to be an expressive wine, elegant in nature, where one glass encourages another. Our wines are included among those in the ‘Wines from the Lands of Castile and Leon’ Protected Denomination of Origin.

BODEGA DEHESA DE LOS CANONIGOS (D.O. RIBERA DEL DUERO)

BODEGA DEHESA DE LOS CANONIGOS

The terroir, the origin of all

Dehesa de los Canonigos is located in the river Duero Valley, just between Valbuena and Pesquera de Duero, inside the so called Golden Mile of Ribera del Duero

The property has an area of 600 ha., only 60 belong to vineyard. It was the first property to plant vines in the repopulation of the Duero after the arrival of phylloxera in the eighteenth century, with vines imported from Napa Valley in California used as a pattern and implanted with vinifera imported from France by Toribio Lecanda.

The vineyard is located on the slope of a hillside with north-south orientation at 800 meters above sea level, with influence of the Mediterranean-continental climate, which gives as a result a privileged place for the proper development and maturation of the grapes.

The diverse composition of soils and the different ages of the vines allow to divide the estate into sub-plots, all of them with limestone composition, which gives the wines of Dehesa of los Canonigos refinement, elegance and ability for aging.
Our plots have a high planting density and we obtain yields of less than 3,500 Kg / ha on average. We make a short pruning to allow the regeneration of each plant and making manual harvest in boxes of no more than 12 kg to guarantee the integrity of the grape We make a first selection in the vineyard and a second one in the selection table in the cellar. All this allows us to extract the maximum essence of each strain and ensure high quality harvest at Dehesa de los Canonigos.

Grape varieties
The predominant variety is the Tempranillo, a clone of Tinta Fina, all the vines are implanted with wood from our older vines.

We also have other minority varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon –used to compensate- and the variety Albillo white, with high glyceric content that gives uniqueness to our wine SOLIDEO.

VINOS LA ZORRA (D.O.P. SIERRA DE SALAMANCA)

"The 2013 La Vieja Zorra was firing on all cylinders. It is a blend of Rufete, Tempranillo and Garnacha from low-yielding old vines on granite and slate soils rich in sand. The destemmed and crushed grapes fermented at low temperature in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matured in a mixture of medium-toasted French and American oak barrels for 13 months. It shows a tantalizing nose of wild strawberries and flowers, is deeper and more complex than the La Zorra, and is showing open, expressive and integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with abundant, very fine tannins, and great acidity that cleanses your palate and lifts the finish up. Super! 8,500 bottles produced."

The Wine Advocate

BODEGA LUZDIVINA AMIGO (D.O.BIERZO)

LUZDIVINA AMIGO WINERY is nowadays run by Miguel Angel and Javier, two brothers who work together to preserve a tradition and support a project in which they can use all the knowledge and experience the Amigo family has obtained after three generations dedicated to viticulture. This way they extend the life of the vineyard their parents and grandparents looked after.

This is how their most personal project makes a start, a winery named after their mother Luzdivina. She is a woman who is always there, smiling and calm. Luzdivina is the driving force of the family; she is the boost of the winery. This character can be seen in the wines and vineyards; the vines are old, hardworking and a good example of her personality

They act modestly while the winery grows. In this winery disasters are mentioned more than successes, the reason is because one learns from mistakes and they help you improve and advance. Due to this, they defend every section of their over 90 plots in 14 hectares of ground. This is how they maintain the magic in their project, including the work of the Amigo family in every single bottle of wine.

The vineyards are 60 y.o the youngest till 140 y.o the oldest.  Yields of less than 1 kg per vine for our top wines.

We use our 100 y.o vines to make our younger wine, Vinademoya. You know: The older the chicken, the better the soup.
