The origin of Marqués de Murrieta wines is the origin of the Rioja wines. At the middle of the nineteenth century, Luciano de Murrieta introduced the winemaking and ageing techniques learnt in Bordeaux. The myth of Marqués de Murrietas wines started in 1852. During the past 20 years, Vicente Dalmau Cebrián-Sagarriga, Count of Creixell, has completely updated the historic winery, and has developed an important international outlook , which has led the group to be named the Best Winery of the World in 2015.
Marqués de Murrieta s perfect “sister-winery” is Pazo de Barrantes. This impressive “Pazo” (Galician manor) has belonged to the Count of Creixells family since 1511, rising up out of the vineyards with the unique personality bestowed by its long history, which has placed its two Galician labels among the best Albariños of the world.
