Just a snap of the fingers, and you’re in it: fully immersed in the tale of undying but impossible love told by West Side Story. Experience this timeless classic of musical theatre and the immortal melodies of Leonard Bernstein in a new staging at the Capitol. On 21 March. No less than four captivating exhibitions await you in the museums at the Ehrenhof. In the Kunstpalast, marvel at the data, pixels and algorithms of the media artist Refik Anadol, whose sculptures will surprise you with their flowing forms and astonishing effects. Right next door, sink into the clouds and waves of Romanticism – in the exhibition Into the Light. The Liberation of Nature, which is dedicated to the oil study as one of the greatest formal revolutions in 19th-century art. In the NRW-Forum, diagonally opposite, the photographs of Andreas Gefeller will challenge your visual perception: what is big, what is small, why is the colourful colourless, why is the dark light? Photographer Alison Jackson, too, plays with apparent truths: in her pictures, she fools, falsifies and provokes, staging supposed paparazzi and documentary photos of famous personalities such as Donald Trump, Marilyn Monroe and Angela Merkel.
