Château Fleur Haut Gaussens EARL Vignobles Pierre et Hervé Lhuillier

Launch of Premium Malbec wine from Bordeaux

Bordeaux Supérieur, Château Fleur Haut Gaussens launches
Premium Malbec wine

Hervé Lhuillier, owner of Château Fleur Haut Gaussens et consultant Olivier Dauga, Le Faiseur de Vin, develop the estate’s range by crafting a top end Malbec wine :

The 100% Malbec wine is atypical and innovating. In line with the avant-garde timeless concept that already characterized the Château, it will be commercialised in 2017.

La Viminière is a small plot chosen because it is exceptionally well suited for this particular grape variety. The terroir composed of clay and limestone soil is hot and provides early ripening.
Thanks to frequent and meticulous maturity checks the fruits are picked at an optimum maturity and balanced PH and degree result in a remarkable freshness.

It is with an open mind and in parallel with the cycle of nature that winemaking took place.
The extraction was soft and the winemaking process took approximately 25 days.
To enhance the fruit and complex its flavours, the pair used modern vinification methods.
Whole, ripe, non-dried blond bunches were integrated to the must.
Ageing is taking place in French and American new barrels with Burgundian character.

The nose is pure and elegant with blackberry and blueberry aromas and just the right amount of smokiness. The attack is precise, and the wine progressively gets bigger, reaching a very sophisticated balance between the quality of the tannins, body, flavors and freshness. The palate is full, generous and suave. It displays an array of ripe blackberries, blond tobacco, peppery spices and plush, sweet tannins. A tannic backbone leads to a complex, long and elegant wine.

When asked what makes him most proud about « La Viminière », Hervé explains :
“I like to take risks and be out of the box. It was a difficult choice but The Malbec is perfectly suited to this plot. Winemaking was complicated and needed constant attention to detail but I’m proud of the result. It fits well into the Château’s range. It is an atypical, distinctive premium wine.”
