Mexico: President Mexican Sommelier Association on Trends
Comments by Marcos Flores
Talking about trends in Mexico: We are focusing on Mexican Wines, even if they are not very famous outside Mexico. The national people drink a lot of it and as almost everywhere red windes are the most popular ones starting with concentrated, full bodied wines, but also grapes like Pinot Noir are getting famous. White wines are consumed more than before as well, but not the bone dry ones, more sec o demi. And finally rosé wines in a Provence style are slowly increasing in the amount of consumption.
Besides wine, beer is also very popular in Mexico, especially crafted beer. Considering spirits, Gin in the form of Gin & Tonic with its many different recipes, as well as the Mezcal, a very traditional Mexican beverage, are on the market with a lot of new brands.
