Yealands Estate from the Awatere Valley Marlborough will be showing its new aromatic blend “P.G.R.” at Prowein 2014.
2013 is the first vintage of the new Pinot Gris/Riesling/Gewürztraminer from Yealands Estate, made by talented winemaker Tamra Kelly-Washington, and blended from grapes grown in different blocks on the producer’s Seaview Vineyard, which is New Zealand’s most coastal viticultural spot.
“Our cool, coastal Seaview vineyard in the Awatere Valley of Marlborough provides an excellent terroir for aromatic white wines. With this in mind we wanted to bring together Pinot Gris, Riesling and Gewürztraminer, combining the best qualities of each variety to create a wine with personality, harmony and balance” says Kelly-Washington
Having been recently released in the UK, Yealands Estate Single Vineyard PGR 2013 was selected by leading winewriter Jancis Robinson as "Wine of the Week".
"This 13 per center is very pale - almost water white - and has some real delicacy. In fact the filigree texture is one of its great assets, along with excellent balance of fresh, racy acidity and fresh fruit that is just off dry. There is none of the heavy oiliness nor excess phenolics that beset some New Zealand wines from these varieties. "
