Only the very best Italian wines, that is, winners of the Tre Bicchieri award – Gambero Rosso Vini d’Italia guide’s top rating – will be on the scene in Düsseldorf on March 3, 2012.
This gala tasting, which celebrates the guide’s twenty-fifth year, will also be the occasion for presenting the German edition of Vini d’Italia 2012.
The Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri event will take place in the Stadthalle, Ballroom of the Düsseldorf fair complex. The Italian wine gala will be the opening event for “Prowein goes City”, a series of activities that will enliven Düsseldorf during the important international Prowein fair.
Gambero Rosso Editore will be present with a stand during the days of the fair: Stand number 3A139 Pavilion number 3
Gambero Rosso, founded in Rome in 1986, from the first editions of the Vini d’Italia guide organized a series of international events to showcase Italian quality wines abroad. The United States and Germany were the key countries involved at first. This year the Tre Bicchieri World Tour has already made stops in Hong Kong and Shanghai, San Francisco, New York and Chicago. The tour will close in Canada, in the city of Montreal, on June 6.
Gambero Rosso has been organizing events in Germany for years (in Munich, Berlin, Hamburg and Frankfurt) to consolidate the country’s deeply-felt interest in wine made in Italy. In 2010, Italy was the principal exporter of wine to Germany, amounting to 730 million euros, 36% of the total. The numbers from 2011 indicate a rising trend that is not limited to Germany, but show increased sales also in the United States, China, Russia and Brazil. Two tasting events will be held in April in Brazil.
Remember - only wineries that had at least one label awarded Tre Bicchieri, the highest ranking for quality assigned by the Gambero Rosso panel in rigorously blind tastings, can participate in the Tre Bicchieri World Tour. Vini d’Italia 2012 bestowed only 375 Tre Bicchieri awards after tasting 20,000 wines from over 2,350 selected producers. Among these final awards, we further selected 95 Green Tre Bicchieri, that is, wines from companies that are particularly attentive to environmental issues (organic and biodynamic cultivation) and 52 Tre Bicchieri costing under 15 euros, that is wines that offer especially favorable value for money. In Düsseldorf, over 150 wineries will be present, each with its own story to tell and its own wines to taste.
