Thokozani means ‘celebration’ – a more appropriate name for a story about generosity, hope, inspiration, dedication and “upliftment” is hardly possible. Thokozani has its own wine brand and guesthouse which are 80% owned by the staff. Thokozani is based and cultivated on the prestigious Diemerfontein Wine & Country estate in Wellington, South Africa, in the heart of the Cape Winelands. The commitment of proud owners David and Susan Sonnenberg of Diemersfontein to developing their employees’ family wealth and skills formed the basis for their vision to create a partner company that would facilitate their aspirations in a way that embraces the principals of true “upliftment” and Black Economic Empowerment. Thokozani became the first and only BEE company to sign an exclusivity agreement with the Major Retailer WOOLWORTHS in South Africa and was awarded the overall winner at the Chamber of Commerce for most successful Transformation Business in South Africa.
The Managing director of Thokozani Denise Stubbs was elected to represent the staff, who has an 80% shareholding in Thokozani, as a Director and has held this position since 2008. It was always her passion to plough back into the “black” community.
