ProWein 2009 with first-class spirits

More than 300 spirits suppliers present heavy hitters from around the world

First-class spirits await trade visitors at the upcoming ProWein 2009, from 29 through 31 March in Düsseldorf. Among the more than 3,000 exhibitors this year, roughly 300 are presenting fine spirits. The assortment is con-centrated in the spirits hall, 7a. In the other halls as well, you will find true high-proof treasures at the numerous viticulturist booths. To help you keep track of this remarkable variety, the entire assortment of spirits at ProWein 2009 will be available for the first time as a pocket guide. This practical spirits guide navigates the trade visitor accurately through the extensive assortment of fine liqueurs, brandies, whiskeys and company.

As in wines, organic is the current hot topic in spirits. ProWein presents the current offerings—from vodka made of organically grown grain to or-ganic cognac or elderberry liqueur from organic farming. Other new high-proof products are also promising, for example bitters of 58 herb and spice extracts, or cognac sold in a golden cage with Swarovski stones. Not quite so pompous but just as unusual: the bar scene at ProWein, with new trend drinks, pre-mixed cocktails and colourful punches. A total of 25 countries are represented in the spirits segment, including for the first time Martin-ique and Belarus.

Vintage Cocktails: retro-design drinks

Meininger Publishing's FIZZZ Lounge travels historical paths this year. Un-der the motto "Vintage Cocktails", classic drinks of past decades are pre-sented. Bartender legend Bill Deck and his son, David, from Pusser's in Mu-nich, mix cocktails from the old days, as well as their contemporary inter-pretations. Bill Deck is considered a trailblazer of the classic American bar in Germany. He brought the idea to Germany more than 30 years ago and opened Pusser's in Munich. Andy Warhol was a guest here and enjoyed "old school mixing" by Bill Deck—classic, conservative, classy and elegant.

Spirits experts in dialogue

The more than 60-page full supporting programme at ProWein, as well as the accompanying programme of the delicacy special show, "Wine's Best Friends", pick up the topic of spirits, offering interesting tastings and seminars, for example a hosted grappa tasting and a seminar on "Chocolate and Brandies".
