Château d'Anglès Grand Vin Red 2009 AOC La Clape Languedoc

Eric Fabre, former technical director for Château Lafite- Rothschild, bought this estate in St-Pierre la Mer in 2001, attracted, he says, by the mourvèdre. Here the variety makes up 55 percent of the blend, with syrah, grenache and carignan filling in the rest. While oak gives the wine a sleek gloss, the mourvèdre is what hits most powerfully in the end, the wine meaty, licorice-black and sinewy, a southern powerhouse with a sophisticated presentation. 90/100

Château d'Anglès Grand Vin White 2011 AOC La Clape Languedoc

Frangipane flavors overlay limestone earth in this saline white, a broad, lightly nutty blend of bourboulenc, grenache and roussanne with a refreshing herbal spice. It’s full and lifted, an elegant pour for the artichokes baked with onions, black olives and mint in the Zuni Café Cookbook. 90/100
