HISTORY

This beautifully preserved mid-17th century manor house offers an exquisite and privileged look at the typical neoclassical architecture of the Alto Minho and a fresh look into the region’s glorious past. Originally created by the famous clergyman (D.Belchior Barbosa), the noble position of the Morgado of Serrade’s noble was held by the governors and capitães-mor of Monção and handed down from generation to generation from the 17th century onwards.

The coat of arms displayed at the entrance of the estate is a symbol of its prestigious past and present. The manor house was occupied during the Napoleonic invasion wars by the French troops’ commander Marquis de la Rosière and was used as the General Headquarters of the French in 1801.

In 1987 the estate opened its doors to the public with the inauguration of touristic facilities by the Secretary of Trade and Tourism, Mr. Jaime Andrez. It marked the beginning of a new era, and since then many important national and international personalities have visited us.

TOURISM

The Solar de Serrade is a successful example of conservation of the architectural heritage of the Alto Minho Region. The manor house holds a vast collection of tasteful objects consisting of furniture, tapestry and dishware, coupled with an unusually rich collection of Portuguese tiles.

Accept our invitation to enjoy peace and tranquility in our estate. Let yourself be amazed by the magnificent wooden coffered domed ceilings and relax by the fireplace in the parlour. Your comfort is our motto. And that is what you will encounter in each of the six double rooms and the two suites the house has to offer.

Let yourself be surprised by the good taste of even the slightest detail of the interior of the manor house and enjoy its great comfort.
