Jidvei is the most famous Romanian producer of premium dry and medium dry white wines. Based in the heart of Transylvania, Jidvei’s vineyards spread on more than 2500 hectares alongside the Tarnave River, which gives its wines their Denomination of Controlled Origin. Situated at an altitude between 300 and 500 meters above sea level, most of the plantations have a Southern exposition, thus the sun rays and the atmospheric circulation, together with the forest-brown and chalky soil, make up the perfect conditions for vine-growing.
Most varieties cultivated here are white: Feteasca Regala, Feteasca Alba, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Muscat Ottonel, while the red grape varieties include Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
With a tradition of hundreds of years in wine-making and massive investments in modern technology done in the last decade, Jidvei produces every year more than 12 million bottles of wine in four different sized cellars, with over 90% of its production being of DOC level.
Jidvei is also well known for more than 50 years as one of the best producer for traditional sparkling wines, both white (blend of Feteasca Regala, Italian Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot noir) and rose (Pinot noir), that are accomplished in a small cellar located in a former Saxon village dating back from the 15th century.
