Curatolo Arini Single Vineyard Nero D’Avola 2012

STYLE
Our premium wine range, made from selected single vineyards grapes, expresses all the characteristics of our Sicilian terroir. An elegant and complex wine, this is one of the best examples of what Nero d’Avola can make.

VINEYARD
The vineyard is located in the beautiful valley known as “Piana del Cusatino”, San Cataldo, in the province of Caltanissetta (Central Sicily). The altitude of about 500metres above sea level, together with the distance from the sea, provides for excellent diurnal variety where the warm Sicilian sun is alternated with fresh, cool evenings, ensuring great condition for ripening the grapes. The vines are planted south facing following the vertical trellis system on sandy and clay rich soil using guyot pruning.

VINTAGE 2012
2012 was a rather cool year; yields were slightly lower but the quality of fruit was high, producing wines of particular finesse.

WINEMAKING
After de-stemming and maceration of the skins for about 8 days at a temperature of 24-26°C, the grapes are soft pressed and then vinified in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine then spends about 9 months in used French and American oak barrels.

Coralto Grillo

STYLE
Our monovarietal wines were developed in the 1990s to show the best expression of native Sicilian grape varieties at an affordable price. Also known as the main Marsala grape, Grillo produces still wines with great character.

VINEYARD
The vineyards are located in Western Sicily, in the area of Chirchiaro, between Salemi and Vita, at about 40kms from Marsala. They are planted east facing following the vertical trellis system on sandy and clay rich soil, using guyot pruning. At an altitude of around 500metres above sea level, they are about 15 years old.

VINTAGE 2015
After a mild spring with unusual frequent showers, summer was warm with an average temperature of 30°C. Winds coming from North West have helped to preserve the quality of the grapes and the typical aromas of this variety.

WINEMAKING
After de-stemming and skin maceration for a few hours, the grapes are subject to soft-press before fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The wine is then left on its lees for about a couple of months before being bottled.

Marsala Riserva Storica 1988

STYLE
This selected blend of Grillo and Catarratto grapes has been the family’s well-regarded secret for years. Bright, gold coloured wine with intense amber hints and a complex nose of dates, apricot syrup and spices. Full, warm and velvety on the palate with notes of sultanas, caramel and burnt almonds and a very long finish. Our Riserva Storico is the perfect elegant dessert or 'meditation' wine.

VINEYARD
the vineyards are located in the coastal region of Marsala where grapes have a higher propensity to natural oxidation and higher natural sugar levels, which gives elegance and richness to our wine.

VINTAGE 1988
The summer was very dry and warm and by mid to late September, expectations were high for a very good vintage. An excellent year in Sicily that produced as a result this eclectic wine which is an expression of harmony.

WINEMAKING
The process requires soft pressing and slow fermentation at a controlled temperature of 20 -25 °C. To the base wine, which is pale yellow in colour, is added table wine, mistella (fresh grape must with alcohol) and mosto cotto (cooked must). This complex mixture, together with the final alcohol content and the desired sugar level, gives us the traditional “Marsala” flavour.

About us

Company details

After the harvest our grapes continue their journey
to the wineries at Marsala or Caltanissetta.

The winery at Marsala, where our white wines are made, is equipped with modern soft-press machines; stainless steel temperature controlled tanks; and refurbished concrete tanks. Large Slavonian oak barrels are used here to age our Marsalas, and to finish and finesse our red wines we use French and American barriques.

The winery at Caltanissetta is situated in the beautiful valley known as Piana del Cusatino. Here is where we make all of our red wines. It is equipped with state of the art machinery enabling the modern treatment of grapes through a temperature controlled press, modern vinification equipment and stainless steel tanks.
